OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Department of Communications (DCO) objectives are to lead the development of the corporate communications plan, drive prioritization and right size effort with expected impact for WHO; position WHO as the authoritative and trusted voice on health at the global level through working with technical departments to develop strategies to amplify WHO's normative work; lead WHO media outreach, incl. crisis/ emergency communication with input from technical departments as well as across all 3 levels; drive all communication to the general public as well as responding to media enquiries; lead on global advocacy (e.g. health campaigns, public health information, donor visibility for resource mobilization); provide digital production capacity & expertise to support all levels of the organization.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Summary of assigned duties:

  • Contribute to the creation and production of audiovisual content based on current communications priorities and strategies, including support to emergencies, campaigns and high-level events as required.
  • Create compelling and engaging digital content including news interviews, video statements, short videos, b-roll, animations, photos, podcasts, infographics and other materials.
  • Provide audiovisual services for media and corporate needs, such as press conferences and meetings, and produce recorded video and audio clips and other related tasks.
  • Help to maintain WHO audiovisual studio and equipment, manage assets and ensure workflow is efficient and optimized to meet deadlines and targets.
  • Contribute to communications surge capacity work and deploy to the field when needed for emergency communications or support to countries and regions.
  • Ensure content follows best practices and standard procedures for dissemination on broadcast channels, as well as in WHO's a content management system and other digital channels

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: A first-level university degree in information studies, communications, editing, film production, social science or related field Desirable: Training in creating and editing audiovisual assets including videos and photos, as well as other digital assets such as infographics, presentations, social media and/or other digital content.

Experience

Essential: Minimum 2 years of experience creating and editing photos, videos, podcasts and other audiovisual communications for a large international organization or company. Desirable: Using and creating content for social media tools, apps, corporate presentations, newsletters, websites and digital publications Experience in audiovisual work or communications during emergencies and/or humanitarian crises.

Skills

  • Technical expertise in the creation of audiovisual content for broadcast media and social media channels.
  • Proven ability to create digital content for different audiences and channels.
  • Knowledge of the latest audiovisual technology and software.
  • Good presentation and graphic design and layout skills
  • Strong writing skills for headlines, captions, metadata, storylines

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 49,254 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3353 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
