Org. Setting and Reporting

The Trade and Market Intelligence (TMI) section is part of ITC’s Division of Market Development (DMD). TMI has developed and is continuously evolving a set of market analysis tools and customizes these tools for specific regions to facilitate greater intra-regional trade and integration. These are made available for business actors (particularly MSMEs) and are free of charge for users from developing countries. The Trade and Market Intelligence section has developed Trade Map and Export Potential Map, as part of a package of web-based market analysis tools. Trade Map provides data on trade flows and market access in a user-friendly and highly flexible way to thousands of users in the developing world. Export Potential Map enables trade advisors from trade support and government institutions to autonomously identify new export opportunities and prioritise sectors and markets. The goal of this job function is to enhance the quality of global public goods resources by consistently enhancing and updating trade data. Additionally, the role involves providing technical assistance in quantitative market analysis.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of a Market Analyst and the general guidance of a Senior Market Analyst, the Associate Statistician will be responsible for the following duties: • Assists in designing, organizing, planning and managing the collection, evaluation, analysis, compilation and dissemination of statistical data. • Assists in developing, implementing and managing statistical database(s). • Assists in training and technical support on competitiveness, trade, market access, export potential and other related topics. • Prepares draft technical documents for international, intergovernmental and expert group meetings and assists in drafting relevant reports. • Assists in the organization of seminars, working groups and expert meetings. • Guides, trains and supervises junior consultants in the team. • Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. • Performs other duties as assigned

Education

An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in in statistics, mathematics, economics, sociology or related fields is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of relevant experience in statistics, finance, accounting or related area, such as economics is required. Experience in trade in services statistics is desirable. Experience in customs trade statistics is desirable. Experience using statistical software packages such as SAS, Stata or R is desirable. Experience in advanced use of Microsoft Excel is desirable. Experience using data visualization software, such as Tableau is desirable.

Languages

Advanced English required. Knowledge of French or Spanish desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
