Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) in New York. The Associate Statistician will report directly to a Senior Statistician in the Cost-of-Living Division (COLD).

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Associate Statistician will be responsible for the following duties: a) Assists in calculating, organizing, planning and managing the collection, evaluation, analysis, compilation and dissemination of statistical data for the UN common system duty stations; b) Updates Post Adjustment indices taking into account inflation rates, exchange rate changes and other relevant parameters; c) Screens, verifies and runs consistency tests of statistical information used for cost-of-living measurements; d) Assists in developing, implementing and managing statistical databases; e) Assists in training and providing technical support for data collection programmes, country practices and supervises cost-of-living data collection in the field; f) Assists in the development or revision of standards on statistical concepts, definitions and classifications by performing methodological research; g) Drafts technical documents for the meetings of the Advisory Committee on Post Adjustment Questions (ACPAQ) and other bodies carrying out work related to the mandate of the Commission; h) Assists in the organization of seminars, working groups and expert groups meetings; i) Guides, trains and supervises General Service staff in the performance of their functions; j) Performs other duties as assigned.

Education First level university degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or related field is required.

Work Experience A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in statistics, economics or related field is required.

Experience in the compilation of index numbers or cost-of-living measurement is desirable.

Experience in statistical or economic analysis of large datasets is required.

Experience in the collection, compilation and analysis of statistical data is required.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the advertised post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French or Spanish is desirable. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
