This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the **Director of Political Affairs Division***,* the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Provide substantive and practical support to the Director of PAD in implementing the Division’s assignments;
  • Keep the Director of the Division informed on all matters requiring his personal attention,
  • Assist in formulating options as to how those matters might be handled, and ensure appropriate follow-up, as directed.;
  • prepare written summaries and conduct follow-up activities, as appropriate
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships between PAD and the Mission components, the broader UN family, the authorities and other national and international partners
  • Draft summary of analytical reports provided by the colleagues from the regions
  • Perform other relevant duties as requested by the Director

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Political science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration or related fields. A first-level university degree (BA) in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree

Required experience:

36 Months

Experience remark:

A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in political affairs, diplomacy, conflict resolution, development, disarmament or related field. Experience in political outreach, analysis and reporting is required. Experience in an international organization or non-governmental organization in a conflict or post-conflict setting is highly desirable.

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • French(Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge
