Description of task

Under the direct supervision of Roselyn Akombe, Team Leader, Governance and Peacebuilding, the UN Youth Volunteer will undertake the following tasks

Reporting and Data Analysis:

  • Support the preparation of analytical reviews and systematically capture lessons learnt from the Governance and Peacebuilding team;
  • Research, analyze and document findings from related materials and meetings with relevant stakeholders;
  • Assist in developing project reports and other communication materials for key stakeholders;
  • Collect inputs to the elaboration of narrative / annual reports focusing on results, output, and outcomes;

  • Identify best practices and lessons learned to guide programme improvement and strategy planning;

  • Coordinate with projects and teams on qualitative data collection for reporting;

Communications and Knowledge Management:

  • Assist with the development and review background documents, briefs and presentations;
  • Assist Communications Team in content development, especially with regards to reporting impact, beneficiary figures, and project progress to external audiences;
  • Assist Communications Team in the development of presentations with accurate information;
  • Assist and provide advice to technical teams in the preparation of concept notes, knowledge product plans, and strategies for dissemination and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Monitor and report on the status of the delivery, dissemination, and impact of knowledge products.

International Relations, Economics, Human Rights, Public Policy, Development or other social sciences, Communications, Information Technology.

Experience remark

  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience (up to 2 years) in report writing, data collection and analysis, communications, knowledge management
  • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;

Language skills

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • French(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

Learning Expectations

Learning and development are a central part of the UN Youth Volunteer’s assignment and take place before, during and after his or her assignment in the field. Ideally, offering diverse opportunities for learning and development aim to strengthen the volunteer’s skills and competences, improve the quality of the assignment and keep the volunteer’s motivation high.

Learning elements for the UN Youth Volunteer include the development of:

  • Professional skills: including specific competencies and reflection on assignment-related abilities; and on-the-job skills such as time management, problem solving, team building; and career preparedness such as interview skills, CV preparation, job searching.
  • Inter-personal skills: including communication and listening skills; multi-cultural awareness and cultural competency; and conflict and stress management.
  • Volunteering-related skills: including leadership; civic responsibility; and engagement and active participation.

Beyond the learning opportunities provided by UNV, the host agency will support knowledge and capacity development in the technical areas that are relevant to the UN Youth Volunteer’s assignment. The host agency will provide, at its expense, UN Youth Volunteers with equal opportunity to participate in training courses and workshops offered to its personnel.

This assignment is funded by the Government of Norway, therefore only Norwegian nationals are eligible to apply. Moreover, candidates must be between 18 and 29 years of age throughout the assignment. COVID-19: In case of travel restrictions, assignments may start remotely or start dates may be postponed.
