Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located within the Strategic Communication and Public Information Office in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). The Associate Radio Producer will be based in Bangui and reports to the Chief of Content Production Unit.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Associate Radio Producer will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Supports all aspects of production of daily, weekly or special Mission’s Communication Strategy, including public service announcements, news stories, series, features and documentaries for local, regional and international use.
  • Coordinates and works with other sections of the public information office to ensure coordinated messaging in conformity with the Mission’s overall communication strategy.
  • Provides publication material for community outreach, UN Headquarters and Mission archives. Ensures audio material is archived properly.
  • Prepares a diverse range of information products in support of major communications campaign initiative; initiates new projects and helps to develop original publications, announcements, features and news segments.
  • Prepares rundowns, scripts and solves production problems. Undertakes research, interviews, writes script and technical production duties as necessary. Writes and edits features stories on a variety of subjects for the Mission internet sites and newsletters, ensure the timely publication of articles and features, while improving their content and ensuring that they respect the UN standards and ethics; •Writes/edits social media posts, reports, communication plans, briefing, and serves as photographer as needed etc.
  • Assists in the production and editing of video/film projects, programmes or website projects; track production materials; produce transcripts, etc., catalog sound and visual materials for inclusion in productions;
  • Assists in forming an appropriate national, regional, and international distribution system for the Mission’s communication products and services.
  • Prepares periodic status reports on communication strategy implementation. Exercises editorial judgement over communication production in coordination with the Public Information Officer and Chief of Public Information where appropriate.
  • Monitors and assists in the evaluation of effectiveness of communication materials e.g. MINUSCA in Action etc.. and programming, including using analytical tools.
  • Ensures posting of audio and print content on digital and social media platforms, including linking with Headquarters digital and social media platforms. •Creates and designs in appropriate format for promotional and other material, e.g., brochures, presentational materials, announcements, video, and audio cassette covers and catalogues, etc. •Works closely with the Chief Content Production Unit in providing supportive product for their specific needs.
  • Assists in the recruitment of national staff and in development of capacity building programmes and training for national staff on a continuous basis.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Education Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in communication/journalism, broadcasting or other related fields is required. A first level university degree with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience Minimum of two years professional experience in radio production is required.

Experience in planning, writing and on-air presentation as well as production of radio programming is required.

Experience in international broadcasting is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
