Result of Service

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located in the Office of the Special Coordinator on improving the United Nations response to sexual exploitation and abuse (OSCSEA). This Office supports the ongoing efforts of the Secretary-General and the leadership of United Nations offices, departments, funds and programmes along with other Implementing Partners, to strengthen the response to sexual exploitation and abuse in peacekeeping, humanitarian, development and human rights sectors. The incumbent reports directly to the Political Affairs Officer (P5).

To perform the following duties:

• Conduct high-level technical research and compile background information to support engagements, and official travel of the Under Secretary-General. • Contribute to public communication efforts through in-depth research, analysis of assigned topics, and timely preparation and distribution of information documents to target audiences. • Facilitate improved coordination and workflow throughout the UN by supporting the alignment of relevant stakeholders during the HLSG (High-Level Steering Group). Ensure the follow-up and implementation of its decisions. Assist in the Office’s donor relations and fundraising efforts, identifying potential funding sources, and preparation of funding proposals, donor reporting and internal budget reports. • Support the revision of relevant presentations and briefings on the work of the office, ensuring a smooth onboarding process for new staff and related personnel. • Support the implementation of global PSEA planning, monitoring and accountability tolls such as the PSEA Action Plans. • Perform comprehensive reviews of documents and reports, identifying gaps and issues, proposing necessary actions and best practices and collaborate with UN entities and international stakeholders to monitor the progress of subsequent actions. • Stay abreast of latest trends and developments on initiatives relating to the prevention and response to sexual exploitation and abuse within the UN system, external organizations and partners. • Monitor and analyze reported SEA allegations to identify trends and assess potential risks, informing prevention and response measures. • Support the simplification and development of key PSEA policies and guidelines to strengthen and align the UN’s approach to preventing sexual exploitation. • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to gather insights on evolving definitions and concepts related to SEA, with the aim of facilitating the update of ST/SGB/2003/13 Special Measures for Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse. • Support the mapping, review and assessment of existing PSEA trainings across the UN system, as well as produce updates and best practices on the results of • Provide technical and substantive support to PSEA practitioners (PSEA coordinators and PSEA focal points) on PSEA issues, facilitating information sharing and best practices through webinars and meetings such as the SEA WG and Brown Bag. • Promote the widespread adoption of uniform methods and the effective implementation of PSEA activities throughout the UN system by disseminating, simplifying, and facilitating access to standardized tools, guidance, and best practices for field practitioners. • Conduct in-depth research on online sexual exploitation and abuse, examining current trends, challenges, and emerging issues. • Support in examining existing literature, legal frameworks, and best practices to formulate comprehensive and well-founded recommendations for preventing and responding to the sexual exploitation and abuse of individuals with disabilities. • Provide support in researching and developing information resources specifically tailored for individuals with disabilities. • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills

Minimum of master’s degree in gender studies, human rights, social sciences, international relations, peace and security, humanitarian affairs, development studies and/or related field. Required minimum 1 year of experience in the field of gender studies, social sciences, international relations, peace and security, humanitarian affairs and or political affairs, development studies and related fields. Experience in pertaining to addressing sexual and gender-based violence, sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) and/or the protection of civilians is desirable.

Languages
