**OVERVIEW** ------------ Post Number : 1ITSC0014PA Grade : P-2 Parent Sector : Natural Sciences Sector (SC) Duty Station: Venice Job Family: Natural Sciences Type of contract : Project Appointment Duration of contract : 1 year Recruitment open to : Internal and external candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 31-MAY-2023 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism ***Initial contract duration is for 12 months, with possibility of renewal subject to performance and availability of funds*** **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Venice, and direct supervision of the Head of the Science Unit at the Regional Bureau, the incumbent will be responsible for coordinating the project ‘Promoting sustainable development through UNESCO’s programmes and sites’ (UNESCO abrdn project) funded by the Aberdeen Charitable Foundation (aCF). Additionally, under the supervision of the Head of Science Unit and in coordination with the Education Officer of the Regional Bureau, the incumbent will be responsible for seeking further partnerships and undertaking resource mobilization with other private sector entities and donors in the region in the area of Natural Sciences. The incumbent will work within the frameworks of UNESCO’s Medium Term Strategy (C/4), the approved Programme and Budget (C/5) and Agenda 2030. More specifically, the incumbent will: - Participate in the implementation monitoring and implementation of the UNESCO Regional Bureau’s projects in the field of the Natural Sciences and in environmental education, in particular the UNESCO abrdn project. - Identify and develop collaborative project proposals (including with the Education Unit), notably with the private sector, based on Member States' needs and funding opportunities. - Contribute to the evaluation of and report on the UNESCO abrdn project. - Conduct missions to UNESCO abrdn project sites and participate in international conferences and workshops to promote the project, as required. - Draft briefings, reports, articles and presentations on the abrdn project and other Regional Bureau Science projects. - Support communication and outreach for the UNESCO abrdn project and other Regional Bureau Science projects and prepare a wide variety of communication materials in coordination with the Regional Bureau Communication Officer. - Prepare consolidated reports on the UNESCO abrdn project. - Keep abreast of advances in the Natural Sciences and in environmental education, to provide advice internally as well as exchange with external partners including National Commissions, Ministries and specialized institutes. - Assist the Head of the Science Unit to build external partnerships and mobilize resources, notably with the private sector.
