**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Natural Sciences Sector (SC) Duty Station: Paris Job Family: Natural Sciences Type of contract : Non Staff Level : Level 4 Duration of contract : From 7 to 11 months Recruitment open to : External candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : \[\[30 APRIL 2021\]\] UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Section Hydrological Systems and Water Scarcity Section (HSS), the incumbent shall support the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) Secretariat to: 1. Act as support coordinator within the Section of Hydrological Systems and Water Scarcity and provide technical assistance to implement thematic activities of the Section; 2. Provide technical and logistical support to implement FRIEND, GWADI, WLRI, IFI, IDI, ISI, PCCP and Snow and Ice activities in coordination with respective Secretariats; 3. Help coordinate and organize sessions, events, or online seminars/discussions (including supporting technical coordination of online meetings) related to the following HSS organized side events and other international events: Long Description ---------------- a. Expert group meeting on Climate vulnerability and water resilience in Small Islands Developing States (SIDS): Understanding vulnerability and developing policy solutions b. Development of a vulnerability atlas for risk assessment for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) within the framework of G-WADI activities c. Online expert meeting on global suspended sediment data d. International Sediment Initiative training workshop e. World Water Week f. Side events for UNFCCC COP-26 g. Side events for the UNESCO General Conference h. Any other events organized by HSS Section and Water Sciences Division in Headquarters or in different regions. Long Description ---------------- 4\. Prepare lists of participants and reports of the above events and support publishing HSS documents; 5\. Support general monitoring and reporting on the activities through SISTER, update the project database and draft reports in liaison with colleagues at Headquarters and in the field offices, and promote synergy among other projects within the Division; Long Description ---------------- 6\. Create and maintain communications and dissemination of the outcome of the activities; 7\. Support further work by UNESCO on behalf of the Secretariat of the IHP, with a particular focus on water related disasters including floods and droughts within the framework of the Eighth Phase of IHP (IHP-VIII 2014 - 2021); 8\. Contribute as team member to the HSS activities. **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- ***Education*** - Advanced University degree (Master’s or equivalent) in the field of natural science, hydrology, earth sciences or international development studies. ***Work Experience*** - At least 1 year of relevant professional experience in one or more of the following fields: environmental sciences, water resources, and Climate Change. ***Skills and Competencies*** - Excellent communication (oral and written) skills; - High degree of independence, as well as well‐developed capacities for teamwork; - Strong knowledge of computer applications, web skills and social media; - Ability to work as part of a team, to take initiatives and to provide quality and timely support and services; - Flexibility to adjust work schedules and priorities. Capacity to work effectively under pressure; - Excellent ICT skills with proficiency in the use of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power point, etc.). ***Languages*** - Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken). **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- ***Work Experience*** - Experience within the United Nations system would be an asset. ***Skills and Competencies*** - Ability to work in a multicultural environment with discretion, sensitivity and respect for diversity. ***Languages*** - Working knowledge of French would be an asset - Knowledge of another UNESCO official language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish). **BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS** ----------------------------- The incumbent shall work 100%. He/She shall shall submit a monthly activity report. The remuneration paid to the service contract (SC) holder is not exempt from any income taxes which may be levied by the French tax authorities. The SC Holder is affiliated to the French social security scheme (Régime général de la sécurité sociale et des prestations familiales). Consequently, the employees’ social contributions to this scheme will be deducted from the gross remuneration paid by the Organization. UNESCO is not subject to the French unemployment scheme (UNEDIC – Pôle Emploi) and complementary retirement schemes (Retraite complémentaire Agirc/Arrco).
