In 2022, at the UN Transforming Education Summit, the Greening Education Partnership (GEP) was launched as a focused chapter of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in response to climate crisis and youth urge. UNESCO, through Section of Education for Sustainable Development (ED/PSD/ESD), hosts the Secretariat of the Partnership which currently counts 81 countries and more than 1100 stakeholders from all regions of the world that are connected through exchange of good practice, lessons learned and solutions. The Partnership aims at co-creating the processes to strengthen Member States’ capacities in developing and implementing policies and plans for climate mitigation, adaptation resilience and sustainable development. Long Description ---------------- Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director General Education, and of Director of Division for Peace and Sustainable Development, and the overall supervision of the Chief of Section of Education for Sustainable Development, and the direct supervision of Programme Specialist in charge of climate change education and the Secretariat of the Greening Education Partnership (GEP), the incumbent will contribute to implementing the ESD for 2030 framework through the work focused on climate change education. Long Description ---------------- In particular, she/he will: - Support coordinating the work of UNESCO within Education Sector and beyond in both HQ and the field related to climate change education. - Support the development and rolling out of UNESCO green school quality standard in cooperation with UNESCO Field Offices and the Greening Education Partnership member countries and stakeholders; - Support the participation of UNESCO and the Greening Education Partnership in climate COP through designing the programme of education events and associated processes in cooperation with UNESCO sections, institutes and field offices as well as the COP host country and the GEP member countries and stakeholders; - Support the communication and advocacy efforts including relevant meetings, webinars related to Greening Education Partnership and climate change education. - Support expanding the partnerships with private sector and CSOs. - Contribute to the country-level implementation of the “Climate Smart Education Systems Initiative” led by Global Partnership for Education, UNESCO and Save the Children, in cooperation with UNESCO field offices and in-country partners. **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Communication (C) Accountability (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) Professionalism (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- **Education** - Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in education, environment, sustainable development, or related fields. **Work experience** - Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in the field of education for sustainable development preferably in an international organization. - Experience in climate action and/or education. - Experience in designing, managing, monitoring and evaluating programmes and projects. - Experience in outreach activities and partnerships/network building including at international level. **Skills/Competencies** - Familiarity with Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and climate change education. - Strong analytical and drafting skills. - Ability to think critically and innovatively. - Demonstrated capacity to work under tight deadlines. - Ability to maintain effective collegial relations in a multi-cultural setting and to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment. - Excellent IT skills to carry out the work. - Great flexibility working with various stakeholders under different time frames and with competing priorities. **Languages** - Excellent oral and written English or French, and good knowledge of the other language. **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- **Work experience** - Direct work experience in/with UNESCO. - Work experience with private sector and CSO. **BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS** ----------------------------- UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc. The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 76, 371 US $.
