**OVERVIEW** Parent Sector : Natural Sciences Sector (SC) Duty Station: Paris Job Family: Natural Sciences Type of contract : Non Staff Level : Level 4 Duration of contract : From 1 to 6 months Recruitment open to : External candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : \[\[09-OCT-2020\]\] UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the Director of the Division of Water Sciences (HYD), and under the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist responsible for the projects funded by the Flanders Trust Fund for UNESCO, namely, *Enhancing Climate Services for Improved Water Resources Management in Vulnerable Regions to Climate Change: Case studies from Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean, CLIMWAR; and Climate-resilient water management approaches: Application towards Climate Action and 2030 Development Agenda:* In this context, the Project Officer shall perform the following tasks within the framework of these projects: Long Description 1. **Enhancing Climate Services for Improved Water Resources Management in Vulnerable Regions to Climate Change: Case studies from Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean, CLIMWAR;** 1. Help coordinate capacity building on the Climate Risk Informed Decision Analysis (CRIDA) approaches for LAC and Africa; 2. Coordinate to develop tools on strengthening communications with stakeholders including citizen-science approach in flood and drought risk management for identified countries in Africa and Latin America and Caribbean region; 3. Coordinate policy level training on proactive flood and drought policies for Africa and LAC; 4. Help coordinate activities on seasonal forecasting and climate risks in LAC countries; 5. Coordinate vulnerability Atlas for LAC countries: online capacity building sessions for pilot countries; 6. Provide support to outreach activity for the CLIMWAR project by preparing news items to be updated in the CLIMWAR project website to disseminate project deliverables and outcomes to project stakeholder. Long Description **II) Climate-resilient water management approaches: Application towards Climate Action and 2030 Development Agenda** 1. Coordinate to compile CRIDA case studies from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe; 2. Help to organize a global conference on climate-resilient water management approaches. Long Description **III)** Support further work by UNESCO on behalf of the Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP), with a particular focus on water related disasters including floods and droughts within the framework of the Eighth Phase of IHP (VIII-2014 - 2021); Contribute as team member to the activities of the Section. 1. Create and maintain communications and dissemination of the outcome of the activities; 2. Support general monitoring and reporting on the activities through SISTER; 3. update the project database and draft reports in liaison with colleagues at Headquarters and in the field offices; 4. promote synergy among other projects within the Division. **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) **-** For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** **EDUCATION** Advanced University degree (Master’s or equivalent) in the field of natural science, hydrology, earth sciences or international development studies. **WORK EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS** - At least 2 year of relevant experience; - Familiarity with one or more of the following fields: environmental sciences, water resources, and Climate Change; - Excellent writing skills; - Proficiency in MS Office, Excel; - High degree of independence, as well as well‐ developed capacities for teamwork; - Strong knowledge of computer applications, web skills and social media. **LANGUAGES** - Excellent knowledge of the English languange. **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** **WORK EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS** - Experience of work with the United Nations would be an asset. **LANGUAGES** - Good knowledge of the spanish language would be an asset. **BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS** The incumbent shall work 80%.
