This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

This UNV assignment is intended to support the UNEP Regional Office for West Asia in strengthening its capacity and expertise to engage in One Health processes and to support the implementation of One Health Framework project activities at the regional and global levels in line with the Quadripartite One-Health Global Plan of Action and the annual plan of the Quadripartite Regional Coordination Committee. In March 2022, UNEP formally joined the Quadripartite One Health Alliance, formerly known as the Tripartite Collaboration for One Health, alongside the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH). UNEP has been assigned by the Alliance as the lead for 2023. UNEP specifically aims to strengthen the environmental dimensions of human, animal, and plant health and contribute to the joint objectives of the expanded One Health Alliance, including through the development of the implementation framework for the One Health Joint Plan of Action and the Quadripartite Strategic Framework for Collaboration on AMR at the global and regional levels.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer, Nature Action Sub-programme, or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Associate Project Management Coordinator will: • Coordinate and facilitate in implementation of the UNEP One Health Framework Project at the regional and global levels. • Support the development of a strategy for UNEP’s regional engagement on One Health-related initiative in alignment with the One Health Joint Plan of Action (2022-2026).
• Support in the drafting of project reporting and other documentation. • Establish and maintain collaboration mechanisms with the Global UNEP One Health Working Group and other Quadripartite Alliance regional representatives, namely FAO, WHO, and World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH, formerly known as OIE) and country focal points and keep the regional office and the global One Health Team abreast of developments in West Asia. • Participate and assist in coordinating Quadripartite activities in the region and other One Health activities that UNEP is involved in with other members of the Quadripartite and other stakeholders, including by contributing to the implementation of the Nature for Health Initiative. • Support the stocktaking process of existing initiatives and emerging opportunities on One Health-related initiative in the region. • Support in organizing meetings, webinars, etc. This would also include preparing technical materials, info notes, and meeting reports. • Perform other required duties related to implementing the One Health Framework project, such as conducting communication activities and social media. • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

• Experience with programme and project development, integrated planning and analysis, implementation, and management.
• Excellent oral and written skills; excellent writing and reporting skills in English and Arabic. • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing. • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development. • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel. • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment. • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines. • Sound security awareness. • Have affinity with or interest in the environment, public and animal health, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in UNEP Regional Office of West Asia, Beirut. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
