**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Natural Sciences Sector (SC) Duty Station: Paris Job Family: Natural Sciences Type of contract : Non Staff Level : Level 4 Duration of contract : From 7 to 11 months Recruitment open to : External candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 5/11/2021 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the Director of the Division of Water Sciences and under the direct supervision of the Chief of Section Hydrological Systems and Water Scarcity Section for the projects funded by the Flanders Trust Fund for UNESCO, namely, *Enhancing Climate Services for Improved Water Resources Management in Vulnerable Regions to Climate Change: Case studies from Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean; and Climate-resilient water management approaches: Application towards Climate Action and 2030 Development Agenda.* He/She shall perform the following tasks within the framework of these projects: Project I --------- **Enhancing Climate Services for Improved Water Resources Management in Vulnerable Regions to Climate Change: Case studies from Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean, CLIMWAR;** - Help coordinate capacity building activities of the project in Africa and LAC. - Develop remaining activities on the Climate Risk Informed Decision analysis and vulnerability assessment within the framework of the Project - Follow up ongoing activity with partners and stakeholders, monitor and review technical reports and provide necessary feedback. - Identify expert and draft terms of reference for the project activities. - support organizing conference, training workshop including high level science policy meeting within the framework of the project. - Organize final project meeting and prepare progress narrative/ final donor reports. - Prepare/organize publications based on the outcome of the project. - Provide support to outreach activity for the CLIMWAR project by preparing news items to be updated in the CLIMWAR project website to disseminate project deliverables and outcomes to project stakeholder. Project II ---------- **Climate-resilient water management approaches: Application towards Climate Action and** **2030 Development Agenda** - Assist in the publication process of the project outcomes - Prepare progress narrative/final donor reports Miscellaneous ------------- **Support further work by UNESCO on behalf of the Division of Water Sciences and the Section of HSS with a particular focus on Hydrological Processes and Climate Change including floods and droughts within the framework of the 9th Phase of IHP “Science for a Water Secure World in a Changing Environment” (IHP IX-2022- 2029) and contribute as team member to the activities of the Section**. - Create and maintain communications and dissemination of the outcome of the activities; - Support general monitoring and reporting on the activities through SISTER, update the project database and draft reports in liaison with colleagues at Headquarters and in the field offices, promotion synergy among other projects within the Division. **EDUCATION** ------------- Advanced University degree (Master’s or equivalent) in the field of natural science, hydrology, earth sciences or international development studies. WORK EXPERIENCE --------------- - At least 1 year of relevant experience; - Experience of work with the United Nations would be an asset; - Familiarity with one or more of the following fields: environmental sciences, water resources, and Climate Change; - Experiences on flood and drought monitoring and early warning systems, as well as climate resilient water management approaches would an asset - Excellent writing skills; - Proficiency in MS Office, Excel; - High degree of independence, as well as well‐developed capacities for teamwork; - Strong knowledge of computer applications, web skills and social media. LANGUAGES --------- Excellent knowledge of English and good knowledge of Spanish would be an asset.
