Duties and Responsibilities

BACKGROUND UNRWA provides free basic education to over 540,000 Palestine refugee children in 711 schools across five Fields in Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. The Agency also operates eight vocational training centres and two educational science faculties for nearly 10,000 young people. At the heart of the UNRWA education programme is a strong commitment to quality, inclusive, and equitable education. Through its Education in Emergencies (EiE) programme, UNRWA helps to ensure that Palestine refugee children across Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and the West Bank can continue to access their right to quality, inclusive and equitable education, even in times of crisis and conflict. With the increasingly volatile situation in the region - the war in Gaza, the protracted emergency in Syria, the ongoing occupation in the West Bank, and the deteriorating situation in Lebanon – the delivery of education to Palestine refugees living in areas of crisis is a continuous challenge. In this context, UNRWA HQA Amman is seeking an Associate Programme Officer to support project implementation related to Education in Emergencies programme grants. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES a. Draft Education in Emergencies project workplans and reports; b. Gather data for project monitoring purposes and develop qualitative and quantitative reports; c. Provide technical support to Field Office in EIE data collection and monitoring; d. Draft briefings, visuals, and presentations; e. Organize meetings as required; f. Draft minutes of key internal and external Education meetings; g. Perform any other duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills

a. An advance university degree in the field of education, project management, or any other field related to social studies. Three years of relevant work experience in the international / humanitarian sector, education, research. or any other relevant field

Additional Information

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS a. Proficiency in computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets and databases. b. Experience with education related projects. c. Ability to analyse data and provide interpretation; d. Working experience in the Middle East would be an asset. e. Fluency in English, both written and oral. f. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE • The duration of the consultancy is from 01 March 2024 till 31 January 2025, with possible extension depending on the performance of the incumbent and availability of funds. • Remuneration for this consultancy will be equivalent to P2 level. • The consultancy will be based in UNRWA HQ in Amman, Jordan or remote with missions to UNRWA Fields of operations, as required.
