Org. Setting and Reporting The Poor Communities and Trade Programme (PCTP), part of ITC’s Division of Sustainable and Inclusive Trade (DSIT) and more specifically Women, Youth and Vulnerable Communities Section (WYVC), aims to reduce global poverty by involving micro-entrepreneurs from the developing world in international and regional trade. As such, PCTP enables marginalised communities of micro-entrepreneurs to be part of the international lifestyle value chain through a business infrastructure, tailored around a unique system of work that enables these communities - mostly women - to thrive in association with the talents of the fashion world. This system of work also involves consumers, through the application of a specific marketing strategy, geared to increase awareness on the story behind each product and allowing people to make informed choices in their purchasing behaviour. EFI aims to reduce global poverty by strengthening the capacities of micro-producers developing country and social enterprises for export trade, connecting them to the international fashion industry.

As part of EFI, the EU-funded Identity Building and Sharing Business Initiative: an Ethical and "Global" Approach to Job Creation and Sustainable Development project aims at bringing about socio-economic development in the participating countries through human capital investment in the cultural and creative sectors, which are mobilized as factors of business development and identity building.

Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Officer and the general guidance of the Chief Technical Advisor the incumbent will:

  • Works with key clients to facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects. This will include working on an e-commerce platform, business acceleration programme for designers,; monitors and analyzes specific aspects of programme/project development and implementation;
  • Reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and recommends corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
  • Carries out basic research on selected aspects of programmes, operations and other activities, etc., to include collecting, analyzing and presenting statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources.
  • Provides substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation functions, including the review and analysis of emerging issues and trends, with a particular focus on fashion, lifestyle and art, participation in evaluations or research activities and studies.
  • Assists in performing consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change. This will include extensive assistance to business acceleration programmes for designers and creatives.
  • Contributes to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. Contributes to the preparation of audio-visual content, including photo stories, videos, illustrations, etc. of the standards required by the private sector, in particular fashion and lifestyle.
  • Provides administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying and proposed participants, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics, etc.
  • Participates in field missions, including provision of substantive and administrative support, data collection, etc.
  • Performs other duties as required.

    Competencies - PROFESSIONALISM: Knowledge and understanding of fashion and lifestyle sector, with a particular focus on e-commerce, branding and marketing will be valuable assets. Knowledge of sustainability and human rights. Ability to identify issues, analyze and participate in the resolution of issues/problems. Ability to assist with data collection using various methods. Conceptual analytical and evaluative skills to conduct independent research and analysis, including familiarity with and experience in the use of various research sources, including electronic sources on the internet, intranet and other databases. Ability to apply judgment in the context of assignments given, plan own work and manage conflicting priorities.   • TECHNOLOGICAL AWARENESS: Keeps abreast of available technology; understands applicability and limitation of technology to the work of the office; actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks; shows willingness to learn new technology.

    Education An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in in business administration, management, economics or a related field such as social sciences, international business, fashion management is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

    Work Experience A minimum of two years of experience in project/programme management, administration or related area is required.

    Experience working with developing countries is desirable.

    Experience working with photographers, videographers, designers, creative directors and artists is desirable.

    Experience of producing creative and innovative content for online and offline projects is desirable.

    Experience in e-commerce is desirable.

    Experience in fashion business is desirable.

    Languages For the position advertised, fluency in English and knowledge of French is required. Knowledge of Italian is an advantage.

    Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
