This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Chief of Section or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Associate Programme Officer will:

  • Contribute to the work plan of the Countering Terrorist Travel Programme as a whole, and in particular, carry out specific tasks to support the implementation of the Programme’s project implementation in beneficiary Member States;
  • Supports the coordination of implementation in all Member states, including liaising with national authorities, and with Programme Partners;
  • Supports outreach activities through the preparation of speeches, presentations and speaking points;
  • Support activities related to budget funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and preparation of related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.);
  • Assist in the preparation of regional informal working groups and conferences and other events to advance or promote the Programme with regional or international organizations as well as Member States;
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • An advanced-level university degree (Master’s degree or higher) in business administration, management, economics, political affairs, international relations, law, project management or a related field;

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

  • Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience in project/programme management, administration or related area is required. Experience working on issues related to preventing and countering terrorism is desirable. Experience in API and PNR or law enforcement is desirable;
  • Good knowledge of United Nations and other counter-terrorism conventions, instruments and documents, in particular the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and its four pillars;
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent English drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including national, regional and international partners, authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Powerpoint, Word, Excel, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Knowledge of Counter-Terrorism and/or Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) related initiatives is an asset;
  • Experience in supporting capacity-building and/or technical assistance delivery is an asset;
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required;
  • Working knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.
