The objective is to increase their influence as scientific leaders in their field or institution and increase the role of women in development. The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) is a UNESCO programme unit and hosted by The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in Trieste, Italy. Since 1998 OWSD has been supported by Sweden's International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) to provide PhD fellowships in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects to women from least developed countries. In 2018, OWSD launched a cutting-edge programme to support early career women researchers in STEM. The Early Career strand is funded by Canada’s International Development Centre (IDRC) and focuses on converting women's innovative ideas and solutions into products that will contribute to the social and economic development of their countries. These programmes build on the network and enthusiasm of over 7,500 OWSD members, all women scientists with postgraduate degrees, living and working in developing countries. Under the direct supervision of the OWSD Coordinator, the incumbent will be expected to prepare, analyse and improve budgets for current and proposed programmes as well as to identify potential donors and assist in developing new programmes. In general, the incumbent will be responsible for managing and implementing OWSD programmes (including fellowships, grants and awards), overseeing and guiding the workload and tasks of staff who implement these programmes; assisting in compiling reports and ensuring that stated goals for donors are achieved; and setting up and implementing office organizational structures to improve efficiency, communication and clarity. Long Description ---------------- Under the direct supervision of the OWSD Coordinator the incumbent will: - Develop, implement and manage OWSD programmes as guided by the OWSD Programme Coordinator. - Supervise and guide OWSD support staff responsible for programmes. - Identify and prepare suitable materials for prospective partners (including especially donors).
