Org. Setting and Reporting The International Seabed Authority (ISA), an International Organization established under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, whose Headquarters is in Kingston, Jamaica, seeks a temporary Associate Programme Management Officer (Marine Environmental Management) to work in its Office of Environmental Management and Mineral Resources (OEMMR). The OEMMR is one of four Offices in the ISA. It provides scientific and technical input into the development and implementation of the rules, regulations and procedures for the conduct of activities in the Area. It also coordinates the collection, analysis and dissemination of geological, biological, environmental and technological data and information on the Area and its resources, including through the development and maintenance of the Authority's global database. It supports the development and implementation of regional environmental management plans, environmental impact assessment and environmental monitoring, and the development of environmental standards and guidelines. It also supports ISA's work to promote and encourage the conduct of marine scientific research in the Area by developing collaborations with member States and international organizations, and disseminating the results of scientific research and analysis. The incumbent will report to Director of Office of Environmental Management and Mineral Resources, and the incumbent provides technical and organizational assistance to the OEMMR in organizing 5 virtual workshops on marine scientific research, ISA database (DeepData) and regional environmental management plans in 2020 in accordance with the UNCLOS and its implementation Agreement on Part XI. Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: 1.Under the supervision of Director of OEMMR, to coordinate the organization of 5 virtual workshops by working together with other OEMMR colleagues, and monitor the progress of various preparatory activities. 2.To coordinate the registration and invitation of, and communication with, participants to attend the virtual workshops ensuring their timely participation through online platforms, their quality contributions to the workshop deliberations, and their timely submission of presentation materials and the summary of presentations. 3.To coordinate the preparation of pre-recorded video presentations, in collaboration with relevant subject-matter officer and the Communication Unit. 4.To manage registration process of all the participants to attend the virtual workshops and produce lists of participants in a standardized format of ISA. 5.To undertake electronic survey in support of the workshop objectives, in collaboration with relevant subject-matter officer and the Communication Unit. 6.To coordinate and communicate with workshop co-chairs, facilitators, rapporteurs and other collaborators, as advised by the Director of OEMMR and in collaboration with relevant subject-matter officer. 7.To provide technical support in preparing meeting documents, including provisional and annotated meeting agenda as well as information notes for participants. 8.To provide technical and editorial support in drafting opening speeches for the workshops and social media materials, managing meeting websites, and any other communication materials. 9.To coordinate pre-workshop coordination meetings with co-chairs, facilitators and rapporteurs as well as workshop participants. 10.To ensure all the technical and online logistic details for smooth conduct of the workshop proceedings. 11.To take notes of the workshop discussion, provide assistance in preparing presentation summaries, and provide editorial inputs in preparing the workshop reports. 12.Perform other duties as requested by supervisor. Education Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in marine environment, marine policy, international relations and development studies, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Work Experience A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management in areas relevant to this position including experience in organizing international meetings within the context of UN/international organizations is required. Experience advocating on sustainable ocean development with a range of actors/stakeholders is also desirable. Languages English and French are the working languages of the Authority. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required; knowledge of another UN official language is desirable Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview. Special Notice This position is home-based temporarily available with a contract duration of 6 months. Extension is subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds. As it is a home-based position, candidates from the same (or close to) the time zone as that of ISA Headquarters in Kingston, Jamaica is preferred. While this temporary assignment may provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain new work experience, the selection for this position is for a limited period and has no bearing on the future incumbency of the post.
