1. Organizational Context

  1. Organizational Setting

The post is located in the Development Agenda Coordination Division (DACD), Regional and National Development Sector, which is responsible for coordinating the implementation of the WIPO Development Agenda.

The Division serves as the Secretariat for the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP), and facilitates its work in defining actions for the implementation of the Development Agenda recommendations and review of their implementation. For this purpose, the Division also interfaces with internal and external stakeholders and promotes a better understanding of the WIPO Development Agenda and its benefits.

  1. Purpose Statement

The incumbent contributes to the implementation of the Development Agenda and its mainstreaming of related programs and activities including supporting the organization of the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP).

  1. Reporting Lines

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Director of the Division.

2. Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:

a. Assist in the coordination and preparation of documentation and reports for the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP);

b. Carry out research, draft reports and compile information in support of the development, coordination and monitoring and evaluation of Development Agenda projects and activities;

c. Participate in missions or meetings, provide information and support with respect to the implementation of the Development Agenda and propose activities or action points;

d. Assist in the work related to the multilingual webinars on different topics related to technical assistance, notably in the selection of experts and topics to be discussed, in implementing the communication strategy, and in the reporting and evaluation work to be submitted to the Committee;

e. Provide logistical, administrative and substantive support with regards to the organization of Committee sessions and other CDIP-related meetings;

f. Establish and maintain contact with relevant internal and external stakeholders as directed, including Member States and intergovernmental organizations;

g. Perform other related duties as required.

3. Requirements

Education (Essential)

First-level university degree in development studies, economics, international relations, law or a related discipline.

Education (Desirable)

Specialization in IP law.

Experience (Essential)

Professional experience in the field of IP and / or Development or any related field.

Experience (Desirable)

Experience in supporting intergovernmental negotiations, developing plans and coordinating and implementing decisions at an international level.

Project management experience.

Language (Essential)

Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English, and good knowledge of French and / or Spanish.

Language (Desirable)

Knowledge of other official UN languages.

Annual salary:

Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment. Please note that this estimate is for information only. The post adjustment multiplier (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change (increase or decrease) without notice. The figures quoted below are based on the July 2021 rate of 83.6%.
