1. Organizational Context

  1. Organizational Setting

The position is located in the Traditional Knowledge Division. The Division facilitates international negotiations on intellectual property (IP) and genetic resources (GRs), traditional knowledge (TK) and traditional cultural expressions (TCEs) and undertakes a wide range of complementary capacity-building and technical assistance projects and activities for the benefit of Member States, regional organizations and indigenous peoples and local communities.

  1. Purpose Statement

The main role of the incumbent is to assist in planning, organizing and coordinating the administration of sessions of the WIPO Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources (IGC) and related meetings and activities. The incumbent also assists in planning, organizing and coordinating the administration of a Diplomatic Conference to conclude an International Legal Instrument Relating to Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources and Traditional Knowledge Associated with Genetic Resources and related meetings and activities.

  1. Reporting Lines

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Director of the Traditional Knowledge Division and/or his delegate.

  1. Work Relations

The incumbent works closely with other WIPO programs and Member States, the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations and other stakeholders, especially indigenous peoples and local communities.

2. Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:

a. Assist in managing effectively and efficiently the IGC Secretariat’s logistical and technical support provided to the IGC sessions and related meetings, including conceptualization, initiation, execution and finalization of the IGC sessions and related meetings.

b. Prepare working, information and informal documents for the IGC sessions and related meetings.

c. Provide logistical, administrative and substantive support to other IGC-related activities, as appropriate.

d. Assist in managing effectively and efficiently the logistical and technical support provided to the Diplomatic Conference and related meetings.

e. Prepare working, information and informal documents for the Diplomatic Conference and related meetings.

f. Provide logistical, administrative and substantive support to other Diplomatic Conference-related activities, as appropriate.

g. Perform other related duties as required.

Education (Essential)

First-level university degree in business administration, law, international relations, communications, development studies or a related field.

Education (Desirable)

Project management certification.

Experience (Essential)

At least one year of relevant professional experience preferably related to project management.

Experience in organizing and managing intergovernmental processes.

Experience with results-based management.

Language (Essential)

Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English.

Knowledge of other United Nations languages.

Annual salary****:

Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment. Please note that this estimate is for information only. The post adjustment multiplier (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change (increase or decrease) without notice. The figures quoted below are based on the January 2023 rate of 78.2%.
