Overview

Be a legal and administrative focal point for Islamic Philanthropy program.

You have:

  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive work in legal field closely related to Sharia/Islamic law.
  • Minimum of 2 continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA’s areas of operations.
  • Excellent written communication skills both in Arabic and English.
  • A university degree from an accredited educational institution in Law.
  • Good knowledge of the main Islamic giving technicalities.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Result of Service Working under the supervision of the Chief of Private Partnerships in the External Relations Department, the Consultant will be a legal and administrative focal point for all the activities related to the Islamic Philanthropy program and will assist Private Partnerships Division in the analysis and preparation of all legal documents relating to the Private Partners.

Duties and Responsibilities Working under the supervision of the Chief of Private Partnerships in the External Relations Department, the Consultant will be a legal and administrative focal point for all the activities related to the Islamic Philanthropy program and will assist Private Partnerships Division in the analysis and preparation of all legal documents relating to the Private Partners. · Ensure adequate legal and administrative tools for the development of Islamic Giving programs.

· Review of relevant rules, regulations, and guidelines for the Zakat Program

· Prepare agreements with relevant stakeholders and prospects to secure Zakat/Sadaqah contributions

· Collect, analyze and verify legal documents for all the private partnership

· Support High Value Donors stream lead with analysis, drafting projects, Arabic/English translation of partnership documents, including legal documents

· Confirm cooperation agreements are in line with partner expectations and UNRWA standards

· Ensure due diligence screening for all prospects. Review and clear comprehensive grant and cooperation agreements for relevant donors in the Private Partnership Division

· Facilitate contact with leading Islamic financial institutions in the region, with the aim to collaborate for the promotion and receipt of multi-year funds, primarily Zakat and Sadaqah, towards UNRWA's programs

· Ensure that regular proposals and reports on optimum and compliant utilization of Islamic funds received by UNRWA are drafted, submitted and published in a professional and timely manner

· Assist with identifying and developing strategic partnership and fundraising opportunities amongst Islamic charities and foundations through research, outreach to and cultivation of relationships

· Conducts research on Islamic social financing, including the Waqf, Sadaqah and Zakat. - Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills Competency: - Excellent writing skills, and the ability to craft engaging content - Communications, presentation and writing skills with attention to detail. - Self-motivated, creative, willing to take initiative. - Ability to follow through on tasks and handle multiple projects concurrently. - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines. - Excellent written communication skills both in Arabic and English - Good knowledge of the main Islamic giving technicalities - Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and problem-solving skills. - Ability to develop creative solutions - Drive for results. - Ability to work efficiently in a team. - Track record of working independently and meeting tight deadlines. Skills: - Knowledge of the UN system is desirable - Experience in the Middle East Academic Qualifications: - A university degree from an accredited educational institution in Law Experience: - Minimum of 3 years of progressive work in legal field closely related to Sharia/Islamic law. - Minimum of 2 continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA’s areas of operations and outside the country(s) of which the candidate is a national or holds citizenship, a passport or a national identity number. Language: - Fluency in English and Arabic

Additional Information - The remuneration for this consultancy is $4,000 (equivalent to P1 level ). - The consultant will be based in Amman/Jordan.
