Org. Setting and Reporting The position is located in the Department of Global Communications (DGC), Outreach Division, Dag Hammarskjöld Library. The United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld Library connects Member State delegations, UN staff, researchers and world citizens with trusted information/data, facts and human knowledge about and for the UN. It provides a foundation for facilitation, dissemination, use, access to, engagement with, and preservation of information and knowledge in support for the work, principles and mission of the United Nations. The incumbent reports to a Senior Librarian and to the Section Chief. The position is available as soon as possible through 25 September 2023.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Associate Librarian (Data Science) will be responsible for the following duties: (These duties are generic, and may not be performed by all Associate Librarians.) - Develops process improvement mechanisms for data analytics tasks; acquires and cleans data from primary or secondary sources and maintains databases/data systems. - Reviews a variety of data sources to identify appropriate materials that meet the information needs of the Organization and its information clientele. - Develops reports, dashboards or other tools to effectively summarize findings and convey information to management. - Organizes, classifies and catalogues print and electronic information resources. - Uses knowledge of institutional information needs to evaluate, recommend and acquire printed and electronic materials to be added to the Library Network collections. - Participates in the creation of electronic and other reference tools, and the compilation of bibliographies. - Monitors the performance of vendors and exchange partners and recommends changes where necessary. - Performs other duties as assigned.

Education A first-level degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in library science, information or data science, analytics, information management or related field is required.

Work Experience A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in information management, information science, applied analytics or related area is required.

Experience with self-service analytics and data visualization applications (MS PowerBI, Qlik, Tableau or similar) is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required; and knowledge of French is an advantage. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
