Background Information - Job-specific

This position is located in the Office of the Chief of Mission Support, Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen (OSESGY). The incumbent reports to the Administrative Officer (P-4) through the Administrative Officer (FS-6).

Functional Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision, the Associate Liaison Officer will be responsible for performing the following duties:

  • Assist with liaison with GoJ entities, mainly Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, the National Operations Centre, Join Coordination and Monitoring Centre and other Government counterparts in order to support delivery of OSESGY objectives;
  • Support with liaison in matters related to operations, access, movement, and coordination with OSESGY’ governmental and non-governmental partners in Jordan;
  • Assist in the maintenance of documentation of decisions and correspondence and actions taken on liaison issues and keep electronic filing up to date;
  • Coordinate in the provision of logistical support for visits between host government and OSESGY;
  • Assist in the preparation of agendas and supporting documentation for the meeting with Local Government Officials and other stakeholders;

  • Assist in facilitating registration of diplomatic and non-diplomatic OSESGY personnel, administrative, legal, visa, residency, customs clearance, protocol, etc.;

  • Assist in processing requests of diplomatic privileges and immunities, and when required the accreditation for non OSESGY staff on temporary meetings held at OSESGY;
  • Assist OSESGY on matters of protocol and the host country policy procedures and keeps abreast on changes/evolution in policy/procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education****:

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

A first-level university degree in combination with additional three years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration or related field combined with one year of relevant professional experience

Work Experience: - A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in protocol, public information, external relations or a related area. - Experience in the application of administrative procedures and practices of the United Nations or that of a similar international organization is desirable. - Experience in liaising with governments authorities is desirable. - Three years of experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and Arabic (oral and written) are required.
