Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Information Systems and Development Unit (DPS/ITS) and will work for the Trade and Market Intelligence section on Trade Map Embedded, Market Price Information, Procurement Map.

Responsibilities Under the overall guidance of the Chief TMI and the supervision of the IT&S Manager, the Incumbent will directly report to the Information System Officer, TMI. The Associate Information Systems Officer may be responsible for the following duties:

  • Participates in preparing user requirements and other technical specifications.
  • Assists in the design, development and installation of information systems.
  • Undertakes analysis of well-defined modules within the system, develop enhancements and new features to existing systems; may design and implement small, stand-alone systems as needed (e.g. to meet individual user requirements).
  • Undertakes rigorous testing and proving of applications software.
  • Maintains assigned portions of systems, providing operational support for system’s applications, analyzing and implementing system changes/upgrades, etc.
  • Writes and develops programs to interface with existing systems.
  • Ensures data security and integrity
  • Prepares, updates and maintains system’s documentation and related technical/procedural manuals.
  • Assists in the set-up and monitoring of software performance measures.
  • Drafts training materials and conducts training sessions and demonstrations of systems for users.
  • Participates with senior staff in assessing and testing new technology.
  • Performs ad hoc duties as required.

    Competencies - Professionalism: Knowledge of at least two programming languages, basic systems analysis and design techniques, testing, debugging, and documentation standards, database design, storage and internal systems. Knowledge in Highcharts.js and d3.js data visualization desirable. Knowledge of C# and Microsoft .NET Core Framework and development using Microsoft Visual Studio. Knowledge of Angular Framework to develop front-ends. Shows pride in work and in achievements; demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; is motivated by professional rather than personal concerns; shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges; remains calm in stressful situations.     Education A first-level university degree in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics or related field.

An advanced degree in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics or related field may be accepted in lieu of the work experience requirement

Work Experience Applicants to positions at this level who have an advanced university degree in a relevant field of study are not required to have professional work experience. For applicants who have a first level university degree, two additional years of qualifying work experience is required.

Experience in, design, development, implementation and maintenance of computer information systems or related area is desirable.

Experience in developing responsive design applications is desirable.

Experience in Mobile development using Ionic and publishing is desirable.

Languages Advanced English or advanced French with an intermediate knowledge of the other required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice The conditions of service are governed by the United Nations Staff Rules and Regulations. This is a temporary appointment for an initial two (2) months (parental leave cover) and may be subject to extension.
