This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

OCHA is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies.

Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Information Management Unit, and in close collaboration with the Information Management Unit and Coordination Unit in Beirut, the incumbent provides information management and data visualization support in order to improve the overall quality of data management, analysis, visualization and dissemination in support of Lebanon humanitarian operations.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the head of the Information Management Unit or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Associate Information Management Officer will:

• Data Management: design, develop and manage spreadsheets and other data tools; understand, document, and ensure the quality of high-value humanitarian data for accuracy, consistency and comparability; consolidate operational information on a regular schedule to support analysis; • Data Analysis: organize, design and carry out the evaluation and analysis of location specific datasets through meaningful statistical techniques; participate in the development, implementation and management of new indicators, together with its accompanying data, to be included in a Common Humanitarian Dataset; understand, document and ensure the quality of high-value humanitarian data for accuracy, consistency and comparability; • Visualization: produce and update information products such as reports, charts and infographics by turning data into graphical products to convey messages and a storyline; develop advocacy materials including posters, presentations and other visual materials; • Web Management: manage content on relevant web platforms, provide overall quality control for the platform and ensure content is current, comprehensive and follows relevant metadata standards; • Assessment Analysis: support assessment and needs analysis activities, including humanitarian needs overviews, secondary data reviews, preliminary scenario definitions and multi-cluster initial rapid assessments; provide advice on assessment design to ensure data quality; manage platforms and tools that support data collection and analysis such as KoBo Toolbox and Open Data Kit (ODK); • Perform other related duties as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

information management, data visualization, or other relevant programmes at the national and/or international level; experience with humanitarian or development actors is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization; • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.), Adobe Illustrator/ In-Design, online content management systems; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Knowledge of basic programming and R Script with Power BI to produce or update interactive online visualizations is an advantage. • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Sound security awareness; • Have affinity with or interest in humanitarian work, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in Beirut. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
