Org. Setting and Reporting These positions are located within the Collection, Analysis and Sharing Section of the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism to assist in the investigation and prosecution of persons responsible for the most serious crimes under International Law committed in the Syrian Arab Republic since March 2011 (IIIM). The incumbents reports to a P3 Analyst.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Associate Information Analyst is responsible for the following duties:

- Under the guidance of a P3 Analyst, assists in the development of research and analysis strategies and conducts research to identify relevant evidence and open source information to support the development of analytical products and investigations that can further criminal accountability for the most serious crimes under international law committed in the Syrian Arab Republic since March 2011;

- Under the guidance of a P3 Analyst, gathers, collects, evaluates and analyzes information to determine relevance and gaps and to inform decisions relating to investigative activities;

- Organizes and synthesizes relevant information and evidence, including through the use of analytical software(s), and related analytical products in support of the IIIM’s structural investigations, responses to requests for assistance and/or case building activities;

- Maintains and updates IIIM’s internal databases and uses information management evidence processes and electronic information systems to classify, manage, store and transfer information;

- Participates in briefings and conferences with other members of the IIIM, as well as with actors external to the IIIM including national judicial authorities, civil society actors, UN entities and other partners relevant to collection and analysis of information and evidence;

- Performs other duties as required.

Education Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in criminology, law, Middle Eastern studies, conflict or security studies, international relations, human rights or criminal law, political/social science or related fields is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Certification or training in intelligence analysis is desirable.

Work Experience A minimum of two years of progressively responsible work experience in information analysis in the context of criminal investigations, international humanitarian law or human rights, or in the context of the Middle East or North Africa region is required. Work experience using analytical software is desirable. Work experience in relation to the Middle East or North Africa region is desirable. Work experience in relation to the Syrian conflict is desirable. Work experience with an accountability institution at the national or international level is desirable. Work experience in open source analysis is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the positions advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic (reading and writing) is desirable. Knowledge of French is desirable.
