The Associate Humanitarian Principles Officer reports to the Senior Humanitarian Principles Coordinator

Responsibilities -Provides support on the policy/ knowledge management, and to the training and outreach units, as required; follows up with, and responds to requests from, Fields on related activities, ensuring appropriate and timely actions are taken; prepares draft responses and other support functions as required.

-Provides regular data and trends analyses on issues related to humanitarian principles; contributes to the collection and analysis of evidence and data; drafts internal reports with recommendations to the supervisor and follows up on relevant actions.

-Contributes to the mainstreaming of humanitarian principles in UNRWA service delivery and programmes, including:

(i) supporting the implementation of relevant audits and follow-up on their recommendations;

(ii) documenting and maintaining best practice, and

(iii) supporting the sharing of good practices to enhance response and advocacy.

-Supports the design, delivery of trainings, and preparation of training materials, to UNRWA personnel on humanitarian principles. as required.

-Supports the supervisor in coordination with external actors including UN agencies, NGOs, donors, and other relevant stakeholders on relevant issues, including collecting evidence and exchanging of information.

-Under the overall guidance of the Senior Humanitarian Coordinator, works closely with UNRWA Departments, particularly the Education Department, to support the full implementation of humanitarian principles within their working material.

-Drafts and/or provides inputs, from a humanitarian principles perspective, into reports, briefings, talking points, and preparing case summaries and contributes to organizational reports and context briefs.

Education Advanced university degree (Master’s or Equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in social sciences, political affairs, international relations, human rights, law or a related discipline.

Work Experience At least three years of relevant experience in protection, human rights, humanitarian/relief emergency operations, refugee law, legal aid and assistance, is required.

Unless already serving as an international staff member in the UN Common System, at least two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the country(s) of citizenship, is required.

Advanced university degree (Master’s or Equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in social sciences, political affairs, international relations, human rights, law or a related discipline, is required.

Previous work in the Middle East with knowledge of the history and the issues affecting the region, is desirable.

Knowledge of, and experience in, project management, is desirable.

Languages Excellent command of spoken and written English, is required.

Knowledge of spoken and written Arabic, is desirable.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice Type of Contract and Duration: Temporary Appointment until 31 October 2023 with the possibility of further extension subject to availability of funds, need and performance.

The Associate Humanitarian Principles Officer may be required to travel frequently to the five fields of operations.
