Role Summary

The Advisory practice within the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) advises reforming political leaders and governments on strategy, policy and delivery and achieve significant and positive impact for citizens around the world.

We are looking for a Foreign Policy Associate to support the foreign policy advisory workstream in Brazil. This workstream will be supporting key stakeholders, including the Government of Brazil, with shaping Brazil's foreign policy agenda and strengthening its position on the global stage. This is an exciting opportunity requiring exceptional candidates with relevant experiences and competencies.

The person will be based in Brasilia and must be fluent in Portuguese and English.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Foreign Policy Associate will include:

  • Strategic Advisory: Contribute to strategic advice on foreign policy matters, particularly concerning Brazil's engagement with the Global South and emerging economies. Assist in developing a comprehensive and forward-looking country approach that aligns with Brazil's national interests and priorities.

  • Geopolitical Analysis: Conduct in-depth research and analysis of geopolitical trends, regional dynamics, and global power shifts, identifying opportunities and challenges for Brazil's foreign policy. Offer insights and recommendations on navigating complex geopolitical landscapes and strengthening Brazil's international influence.

  • Cooperation Agenda Development: Support collaboration with key stakeholders to develop and propose a comprehensive cooperation agenda that enhances Brazil's partnerships with other nations, particularly in the Global South. Identify areas for mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, technology transfer, and sustainable development.

  • Policy Formulation: Contribute to the formulation of foreign policy initiatives and strategies that position Brazil as an influential player on the global stage. Provide inputs to guide multilateral diplomacy, regional integration efforts, and engagement with international organizations.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Support effective communication and collaboration with relevant government agencies, think tanks, academic institutions, and civil society organizations to gather diverse perspectives and build consensus on foreign policy matters.

Person Specification

The successful candidate should be an experienced and successful leader:

  • Advanced degree in international relations, economics, political science, or a related field, with a strong focus on Global South affairs and foreign policy.
  • Good experience in research, policy consultancy roles within international organizations, governments, companies, or relevant institutions, with a proven track record of providing strategic guidance on foreign policy matters.
  • Understanding of geopolitical dynamics, global governance structures, and multilateral diplomacy.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and build consensus.
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese is essential.
