Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located within the Security Section in the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Erbil. The incumbent will report directly to FSCO, Kurdistan Region.

Responsibilities Within limits of delegated authority, the Associate Security Coordination Officer, P-2, is responsible but not limited to the following duties:

•Supervises a Security Unit, as assigned by the FSCO; •Contributes to security risk assessments in the mission area of operations; •Establishes lines of communication with security focal points, other UN personnel, Host Government authorities to plan and review security related matters; •Act as focal point for security information flow; •Maintain continuing awareness, identifying potential threats and advising UN personnel on appropriate mitigation measures; •Acts as a member of a Crisis Management Team in crisis situations, ensures crisis preparedness and timely coordinate emergency and crisis situations response; •Monitors air, land and sea evacuation capability to be used in emergencies; conducts evacuation exercises recommending appropriate action; •Monitors accessible areas, maintains tracking systems, establishes and coordinates an efficient 24-hour Emergency Response System (ERS); •Identifies gaps in existing capability and makes recommendation for amendment where necessary. •Participates in the development of Principal Security Risk Assessment and implements recommended mitigating measures; assist delivery of protective services for Senior United Nations Officials or visiting VIP’s as necessary; •Performs other duties as directed.

Teamwork: Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals; solicits input by genuinely valuing others’ ideas and expertise; is willing to learn from others; places team agenda before personal agenda; supports and acts in accordance with final group decision, even when such decisions may not entirely reflect own position; shares credit for team accomplishments and accepts joint responsibility for team shortcomings.

Education - An advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in security management or business administration, political/social science or international relations, with focus on security management; A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience in military, police or security management may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree;

  • UNDSS certification in Security Certification Programme (SCP), Security Analysis Processes and Practices (SAPP) and LSA training is desirable.

    Work Experience A minimum of two years of relevant experience working in a United Nations common system field operation (inclusive of peacekeeping, political missions and UN agencies, funds, and programmes) - or similar international organization or nongovernmental organization - in a conflict or post-conflict setting is required. Proven ability to assess security situations and ability to conduct security risk assessments is required. Ability to monitor security situation and issue security advisories, threat information and or notification is required. Professional security experience in the Middle East or similar high-risk environment is desirable. Relevant knowledge and experience of United Nations Security Management System rules and regulations is desirable.

    Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required.
