Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Associate Communications Officer, the UN Volunteer Associate Public Information Officer will:

  • Ensure effective communication and visibility of UNHCR activities in coordination with partners at the national and local level and to best document the success and lessons learnt focusing on the effective articulation and demonstration of results.
  • In coordination with field offices, develop, implement and monitor a UNHCR communication and visibility plan at local level, facilitate better understanding among partners about programme progress, and adhere to UNHCR and development partner guidelines on communications and visibility, including donors.
  • Plan, support and execute campaigns and events organized by partners with the support of UNHCR at field level.
  • Draft and regularly update pamphlets, web stories and other articles for publication in coordination with the Associate Communications Officer, with a major focus at field level.
  • Provide high quality editing and formatting for all UNHCR activities related documents.
  • Design and assist the all components of UNHCR programmes in producing all kinds of visibility material; this includes providing support to other units in producing communications materials.
  • Support staff in organizing and managing seminars, workshops, press conferences and field visits as required to guarantee UNHCR visibility
  • Ensure appropriate multimedia coverage of events. This includes the production of quality videos, photographs and other related content for different channels including social media about UNHCR’s work and engagement with refugees.
  • Ensure the maintenance of archiving system and appropriate use and recording of all photos and videos produced, as well as designs and other communication materials designed.
  • Manage and ensure appropriate content is disseminated through UNHCR social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook), in accordance with UNHCR’s global social media strategy.
  • Perform any other communication and public information tasks as necessary.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • University degree in a relevant area, e.g. Communications, Journalism or area related to Marketing and Advertising; a frst-level university degree or equivalent in combination with relevant training and/or professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree;

Required experience:

36 Months

Experience remark:

  • At least 3 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in with progressive responsibilities in communication, production of public information materials and multimedia production, or other relevant programmes; experience with social media is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;

Language skills:

  • Spanish(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • English(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

-Other desired/mandatory required technical knowledge:

  • Proficiency in image and video production; good knowledge of multimedia software (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, MS Office Suite, etc.)
  • Ability to present verbal and written information to different audience

  • Demonstrated high-level writing skills for different communication materials.

  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;

-Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;

-Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;

-Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;

-Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;

-Have affinity with or interest in refugees, asylum-seekers, migration and displacement
