Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the Director-General of UNON is the representative of the Secretary-General in Kenya. UNON supports programme implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Resident Coordination System (RCS) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, security, conference and information services (www.unon.org). This internship is located in the Programme Communication & Advocacy Department, RCO, Brazzaville, Congo. The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) supports the roles and functions of the UN Resident Coordinator and the United Nations Country Team and provides inter-agency coordination support to Agencies, Funds and Programmes (AFPs) as well as UNs various inter-agency mechanisms. The Assistant to the Communications Officer/Administration internship is for 6 months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. Under the direct supervision of a staff member, the intern will contribute in the following ways; - Support the implementation of the UNDAF communications strategy by highlighting diversity and inclusion in order to ensure the visibility of actions and initiatives implemented. - Support the management and development of relations between the UNRCO and its partners to ensure that inclusion and diversity aspects are taken into account (Donors, NGOs, Press and UNS). - Support the implementation and follow-up of institutional activities, campaigns and other communication activities to promote the SDGs and the cooperation framework. - Support the preparation of press articles and other messages as part of media coverage of the various activities and events of the country team and the UNDAF. - Support the animation of online platforms (blogs/siteweb/Facebook/twitter) by highlighting the inclusion and diversity of UNDAF activities carried out to ensure a broad presence of UNCT, RCO and the Project on the web. - Ensure the maintenance and regular updating of the websites for which the UNRCO is responsible. - Ensure UNRCO's presence and visibility on the Internet and social networks. - Plan, coordinate and monitor social media campaigns across multiple platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Youtube. - Ensure photographic and audiovisual coverage of events in which the office is involved. - Edit (editing, layout) the office's documents (paper and audiovisual), including annual and thematic reports. - Ensure the archiving of documentation relating to UNRCO communications and manage the audio and visual database, as well as technical equipment (photo and video cameras, etc.). - Support the preparation and holding of coordination meetings and events - RCO, UN inter-agencies and partners - including logistics, notes, minute taking and other related tasks. - Support the Administrative Assistant in administrative tasks. - Support the Executive Associate with RC protocol management and logistics. - Manage files / documents on sharepoint (OneDrive). - Manage the Resident Coordinator's diary and calendar. - Carry out any other tasks assigned under the direct supervision of the RCO's Head of Office.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study: Degree in Communication, Administration, or any other related studies. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written French is required. Knowledge of English is desirable.
