Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Information Technology Unit, Production and Support Service, Division of Conference Management, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management, Geneva. The focus of this assignment is the deployment, planning, design, and implementation for the integration of Indico.UN with Umoja, including providing a focal point for all Indico.UN integration matters. The Assistant Information Systems Officer will report directly to the Indico.UN Project Manager.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, and under the supervision of the Indico.UN Project Manager, the Assistant Information Systems Officer will be responsible for the following duties: - Participates in preparing user requirements and other technical specifications. - Assists in the design, development and installation of defined and basic sections of information systems, specifically about the deployment of the Indico System, under close guidance - Assists with the initial analysis of well-defined modules within the system, may develop enhancements and new features to existing systems; may design and implement small, stand-alone systems as needed and as instructed by the supervisor (e.g to meet individual user requirements). - Assists the team with executing rigorous testing and proving of applications software. - Maintains assigned portions of systems, providing operational basic support for system’s applications, analyzing, and implementing basic and routine system changes/upgrades, etc. - Assists in writing and developing defined parts of programs to interface with existing systems as instructed by the supervisor. - Assists in ensuring data security and integrity. - Participates in developing defined sections of disaster recovery plans. - Contributes to the preparation, updating and maintaining system’s documentation and related technical/procedural manuals. - Assists in procurements, including conducting needs assessments and benchmarks, preparing technical specifications and evaluation criteria. - Assists in the set-up and monitoring of software performance measures. - Participates in Helpdesk support services. - Participates with senior staff in assessing and testing new technology. - Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics or related field is required. A first-level university degree in the above fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience Applicants to positions at this level who have an advanced university degree in a relevant field of study are not required to have professional work experience. For applicants who have a first level university degree, two additional years of qualifying work experience is required.

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in software development and/or testing, of which preferably in the Indico System is desirable.

Experience within the United Nations Common System or International organization is desirable.

Experience working with the Python language is desirable.

Experience in mobile applications, HTML5, JavaScript and CSS, ySQL/PosgreSql is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
