Support financial operations of the African Union Mission Support Team.

You have:

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required
  • A master’s degree in the any of the above fields is an added advantage
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant finance work experience with a bachelor’s degree
  • Certification in accounting (e.g. ACCA, CPA) is desirable
  • Proficiency in one of the AU working languages (Arabic, English, French, Kiswahili, Portuguese, and Spanish) is mandatory
  • Fluency in another AU language is an added advantage

Contract

Salary

The salary for this job should be between 63,634 USD and 87,943 USD.

Purpose of Job

The Assistant Finance Officer supports the financial and administrative operations of the African Union Mission Support Team (MST) at MNJTF HQ. The role ensures compliance with AU financial regulations, facilitates timely processing of transactions, and contributes to the efficient functioning of mission support services.

Main Functions

• Assist in implementing AU financial policies and procedures within the MST framework. • Support processing payments, reimbursements, and financial transactions. • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation in accordance with AU standards. • Contribute to budget monitoring and financial reporting. • Liaise with internal units to ensure timely financial support to mission activities. • Provide administrative support during audits and compliance reviews.

Specific Responsibilities

• Process payment requests, travel claims, and vendor invoices in line with AU financial regulations. • Maintain records of expenditures, receipts, and supporting documentation. • Assist in reconciling mission accounts and bank statements. • Support budget tracking and expenditure analysis for MST operations. • Prepare financial input for periodic reports and donor submissions. • Liaise with procurement and logistics teams to ensure proper documentation of financial commitments. • Monitor petty cash transactions and replenishment procedures. • Ensure proper filing and achieving financial documents. • Participate in internal audits and respond to audit queries. • Perform other duties as assigned by the Finance & Admin Officer

Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience

• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required • A master’s degree in the any of the above fields is an added advantage

Experience Requirement: • Minimum of 2 years of relevant finance work experience with a bachelor’s degree • Certification in accounting (e.g. ACCA, CPA) is desirable

TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:

The Appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of one (1) year, of which the first three (3) months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract may be renewed for a similar period subject to funding availability, satisfactory performance and agreed deliverables.

REMUNERATION:

The salary attached to the position is an annual lump-sum of US$ 67,994.41 (P1 Step 5) inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff, and US$ 54,454.96 inclusive of all allowances for locally recruited staff of the African Union Commission.
