1. Organizational Context

  1. Organizational Setting

The post is located in the Operations Service of The Hague Registry, Brands and Designs Sector. The Operations Service processes international design applications and other transactions related to the administration of the various Acts of the Hague Agreement.

  1. Purpose Statement

The incumbent examines international design applications, processes changes or decisions regarding international registrations, and provides customer service to users of the Hague System.

  1. Reporting Lines

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Operations Service.

2. Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:

a. Verify the data concerning applications entered into the computer system.

b. Provide an examination of standard international design applications and a preliminary examination of complex cases by assessing their conformity with the applicable legal texts (Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs).

c. Prepare drafts of irregularity letters and conduct follow-up where required on applicant responses.

d. Conduct preliminary examination of correction requests.

e. Verify fees and follow-up with the financial services on payments.

f. Provide first-level customer support on examination matters and supply information of a practical nature to users and potential users relating to the procedure for international registration, the status of applications being examined or already recorded in the International Register, the payment of fees or any other related questions.

g. Perform other related duties as required.

3. Requirements

Education (Essential)

Completed secondary education.

Experience (Essential)

At least five years of work experience including experience in a customer service environment.

Experience in formalities processing of patent/trademark/industrial design applications.

Language (Essential)

Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English.

Language (Desirable)

Knowledge of other UN official languages, or of languages of major user countries of the Hague System.

5. Information

Mobility: WIPO staff members are international civil servants subject to the authority of the Director General and may be assigned to any activities of the Organization. Accordingly, the selected candidate may be required to move from time to time to new functions.

Annual salary (Net of tax): 75,234 CHF

Additional Information

* Initial fixed-term appointment of two years, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and other applicable conditions. The selected candidate will be subject to an overall term of five years with no possibility of renewal beyond that term. This is not applicable to WIPO staff members on fixed-term, continuing or permanent appointments, who were recruited following a competition under Staff Regulation 4.10 (“Appointment Boards”).

Dependency allowances

7,939 CHF per year for dependent spouse; 6,398 CHF per year for each dependent child.

Language allowance

Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish: 4,788 CHF per year for two of these languages, and 3,192 CHF per year for one of them. The allowance is not payable for the mother tongue or the main working language of the staff member. The grant of this allowance is subject to examination.

General Service posts are generally subject to local recruitment. Staff in the General Service category is recruited in the host country or within reasonable commuting distance of the Headquarters.
