General Background UNHCR South Sudan implements education programmes in line with Refugee Education 2030, the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4), with a growing emphasis on national system strengthening, youth inclusion and development-linked programming. Through funding from the Mastercard Foundation, UNHCR supports access to quality education, skills development and pathways to sustainable futures for refugee and host community youth.

The Assistant Education Officer position supports the planning, implementation, coordination and monitoring of education and youth interventions under the MCF portfolio and related education/youth programmes, ensuring alignment with national education strategies, donor requirements and UNHCR policies.

Purpose and Scope of Assignment The Assistant Education Officer will provide technical and operational support to UNHCR’s education programming in South Sudan, with a focus on MCF-funded education and youth initiatives, coordination with partners and government counterparts, and integration of education within broader protection and solutions frameworks.

• Support the implementation of education and youth activities in line with Refugee Education 2030, SDG 4 and UNHCR education and youth policies; • Provide technical support to education partners in programme implementation, monitoring and reporting; • Support coordination with the Ministry of General Education and Instruction, education authorities and relevant education sector coordination mechanisms; • Assist in monitoring education and youth programs, including school enrolment, attendance, retention, learning outcomes and peacebuilding • Support education components related to secondary education, non-formal education, youth programming and scholarships, including coordination linked to MCF initiatives; • Contribute to education/youth inputs for donor reports, progress updates and internal planning documents; • Support integration of education/youth with child protection, GBV, community services and livelihoods interventions; • Participate in field missions, joint assessments and monitoring visits as required; • Assist in capacity building of partners and government counterparts through trainings, workshops and technical guidance; • Support data collection, analysis and documentation of education/youth activities and good practices; • Perform other protection related duties as required. Monitoring and Progress Controls Performance will be monitored through: • Timely delivery of assigned education/youth support activities; • Quality and accuracy of education monitoring inputs and reporting contributions; • Effective coordination with partners and government counterparts; • Compliance with UNHCR education standards and donor requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

a. Education University degree in Education, Social Sciences, Development Studies or a related field.

b. Work Experience Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in education programming, coordination or administration. Experience in humanitarian or development contexts, particularly refugee education, is an asset. Experience working with government education authorities or NGOs is desirable.
