Contract

UNICEF is scaling the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve programme delivery, enhance operational efficiency, and support innovation across regions. To achieve this, UNICEF requires an AI Community Manager to establish, nurture, and sustain an engaged network of AI experts, practitioners, and champions across headquarters, regions, and country offices. The consultant will serve as the connector between technical teams, field offices, and global working group, fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and storytelling to amplify UNICEF’s AI initiatives

The Global AI Hub aims to hire a community manager who can improve the distribution of AI-related guidance. The AI Community Manager will work under the guidance of the Chief of AI and in close collaboration with the AI Hub, ICTD, TeamOne and regional/country AI focal points. The specialist will be responsible for the following workstreams:

  1. Community engagement and Network Activation

- Identify, map, and engage AI experts and practitioners across UNICEF’s HQ, regional, and country offices. -Define and formalize the roles of AI focal points and champions, ensuring their integration with Team One and relevant stakeholders. -Curate and publish engaging content (spotlight posts, newsletters, discussion prompts, short videos) to spark dialogue across community channels (Viva Engage, Teams, SharePoint). -Track key engagement metrics and help grow our community in a sustainable, authentic way. -Act as the first point of contact for inquiries related to AI tools, technologies, and practices within the community.

  1. Knowledge management governance for AI -Develop onboarding materials, guidelines, and community protocols to sustain engagement and participation. -Establish processes for continuous maintenance and governance of the AI Knowledge Hub and associated knowledge management resources, in collaboration with the AI working group and AI champions teams across offices. -Develop a cohesive narrative for how the tools support different aspects of productivity and programming. Solicit and incorporate feedback from regional and country offices.

  2. Event Management -Facilitate peer-to-peer exchanges that connect AI experts with programme teams in need of technical support or practical guidance. -Plan and host online and offline events, including webinars, Q&A sessions, and other community gatherings to encourage participation and knowledge sharing. -Co-design and organize regular events, webinars, and capacity-building sessions in collaboration with the Frontier Data & Networks (FDN) team to strengthen community capacity.

  3. Community Focal Point -Work alongside ethe comms team to capture, document, and share success stories, case studies, and lessons learned from country and regional offices to showcase AI’s practical value. -Produce knowledge briefs, articles, or blog-style stories that amplify impact and inspire adoption. -Ensure stories from the field are featured in UNICEF’s AI knowledge Hub and other global (internal &external) communication channels. -Offer periodic updates to senior management on community progress, challenges, and opportunities for scaling

a) Geographic situation

Valencia is the 3rd largest city in Spain, after Madrid and Barcelona. And is located on Spain’s eastern coast, at the mouth of the Turia River, right in the centre of the Gulf of Valencia. It is situated on the shores of the Mediterranean, a stretch of water which has gradually forged the city's character over the centuries.

b) Climate, weather and clothing

Valencia enjoys a mild temperate Mediterranean climate. The average annual temperature is 17ºC with warm summers and mild winters. The temperature in Valencia rarely falls below 10ºC and there is only light rainfall mainly in autumn and the beginning of spring.

Please note that the amounts can vary according to fluctuations of the monthly post adjustment. Leave entitlements: Annual leave: 2.5 days accrued per calendar month Certified sick leave: UN Volunteers are entitled to up to 30 days of certified sick leave based on a 12-month cycle. This amount is reset every 12-month cycle. Uncertified sick leave: 7 days for 12 months and 4 days for shorter assignments Learning leave: 10 working days per consecutive 12 months (shorter assignments are prorated) Maternity Leave: 16 weeks Paternity Leave: 10 days
