Area Manager-Baidoa-South West State

The Role:

The role oversees program operations in South-West-State towards successful promotion of child focused, relief and rehabilitative programming. The position holder will serve as liaison for World Vision with the State Government, local communities, UN and NGOs to promote coordination and information-sharing. The Area manager will work closely with Technical Specialists in seeking out influencing opportunities in South West State to promote child well-being. The Area manager will supervise project Managers and Coordinators in the South West State to ensure that World Vision programs are fully implemented in a timely manner. S/he will ensure operational effectiveness by following up the implementation of action plans arising from meetings, and project visits. The position holder will provide programmatic and operational support to emergency start-ups in terms of assessments, trainings and roll-out of emergency programs. The position holder will facilitate implementation of programme quality standards in line with provided guidelines to ensure accountability of results to the programme, government, donors and the communities. The position holder will ensure risk-sensitive, pro-active, finance and support service provision to the program. S/he will spearhead responsible and effective stewardship (prudent use) of WV programme

Key Responsibilities:

  • Staff Management and Capacity Building

Essential:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Social Sciences/ Development Studies or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of experience in relief and development work with at least with 3 years in project management.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian industry including SPHERE standards, Good Enough Guide, NGO code of conduct and humanitarian charter
  • Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal and diplomatic skills, able to negotiate win-win situations, put the stakeholders’ needs above his/her own, and drive for results which are best for the program while honoring each person’s abilities and strengths.
  • Having cross – cultural experience
  • Experience in engagement with governments and multi-sectorial stakeholders
  • Experience in managing or overseeing emergency responses
  • Experience people management
  • Familiarity with UN Agencies; EU, USAID, DFID, CIDA grant compliance and procedures
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills
  • Experience/ Training in staff security and safety management for humanitarian organizations in complex and insecure environments.

Working Environment:

The position will be based in Baidoa, South West State with regular travel to other field locations for support.
