Result of Service The consultant as architectural technologist will be expected to undertake many activities including, develop drawings (using: autocad – revit – 3DS), review existing drawings, integrate details or info to existing files, produce executive drawings suitable for the construction site, be able to sweep from a 1:1000 scale to a 1:1 and from a landscape project to a furniture detail, be meticulous in the proper nomenclature of files and on the correct archiving system, all ranging from design generation to task automation. The common thread is the use of a visual programming tool.

Work Location GENEVA

Expected duration 6 months with possibility of extension, pending availability of funds.

Duties and Responsibilities The consultant will be located in the Special Projects Sub-Unit of Buildings Unit, Facilities Management Section, Central Support Services, Division of Administration, United Nations Office at Geneva. Under the direct supervision of the special projects supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

1) Explore multiple design options Producing drawings and encoding design rules in a computational framework to enable the evaluation of each design option in order to determine the most appropriate solution.

2)Access data Inputting and transferring data from one format to another to ensure accessibility of data, requiring mandatory knowledge of systems/formats as follows: advanced knowledge of Revit, advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, basic knowledge of 3DS.

3) Automate repetitive tasks Utilizing complex geometry and advanced design skills.

4) Test designs Testing during the design stage, including appropriately utilizing computational design tools to enable easy simulations of building performance through the design process, which will allow quick determination as to which design performs measurably better and provide additional time to perform detailed simulations on the optimized design.

5) Critical thinking Utilizing logical/ critical thinking skills to address design problems in a step-by-step manner, as well as utilizing intuition and creativity to solve problems and improve design logic over time. It is expected that each step in the designs prepared by the consultant will become a series of instructions that can be evaluated, revised and improved within specific parameters. Therefore, it is required that the consultant critically thinks through all steps of the design problem and considers all inputs and outputs to effectively create a process that can be understood and repeated.

6) Advanced level knowledge of architectural details Utilizing in-depth knowledge of architectural details derived from onsite experience and personal/professional insights into materials and construction methods to produce executive drawings.

7) Work in team Collaborating and working in a team, sharing knowledge, information and files.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in architecture, civil engineering or interior design field is required.

Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in producing architectural drawings is required.

Language: Fluency in English or French is required. Presentational and solid drafting skills and proven ability in written expression in English or French are required.

Skills: Advanced knowledge of AUTO-CAD, Revit and Microsoft Excel is required. Knowledge of basic 3DS is required.
