**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Culture Sector (CLT) Duty Station: Nineveh Classification of duty station: Mosul Job Family: Culture Type of contract : Non Staff Level : Equivalent to SC 4 Duration of contract : From 1 to 6 months Recruitment open to : Internal and external candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 19-July-2022 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- In April 2022, UNESCO and the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in conflict areas (ALIPH) signed the project “Restoration and Rehabilitation of the House of Prayer”, located in the vicinity of the Conventual Church of Our Lady of the Hour (Al-Saa'a Church), in Mosul. Within the framework of the Mosul Initiative, the project aims at rehabilitating the so-called House of Payer, in the Old City of Mosul, as a multipurpose space for the community to host cultural and educational activities, and, as such, will contribute to the overall impact of strengthening the Moslawis capacity, including minorities, to lead the recovery of their city, safeguard their heritage and benefit from a peaceful coexistence. The Project will take advantage of UNESCO’s direct experience in Mosul, being complementary to other two projects currently under implementation, and acting at the urban scale: the reconstruction of historical landmarks and the rehabilitation of historical houses, and mainly of the EU funded project. Duties and responsibilities --------------------------- In the framework of the Restoration and Rehabilitation of the House of Prayer project (herewith known as the Project), and under the overall authority of the Director of the Office, the overall supervision of the Head of Culture Programme, the Architect shall manage, coordinate and implement all aspects of the documentation, rehabilitation and reconstruction of the site, be responsible for the technical oversight in the design and management of interventions in the Project, and contribute to the Project’s outputs with the goal to improve the community resilience and livelihood in the urban areas of Mosul. This includes the following functions, but not limited to: a) Under the supervision of Project Officer, the UNESCO Senior Architect and Construction Manager, responsible for production of technical documents on the conservation project. b) Involved in all phases of design through design process and construction administration with focus on conservation rehabilitation projects. c) Effectively demonstrate architectural detailing and problem-solving skills on complex project types. d) Understanding of how to put together documents in dealing with project designs, building materials, construction techniques, related engineering principles, sustainability strategies and building codes, and assembling construction drawing sets. e) Demonstrates enthusiastic commitment to the multidisciplinary project development process and team-focused environment applying in-depth knowledge of conservation works, building technology and assembly, construction methodology. f) Liaise with conservation specialists and MEP/Structural/Civil engineers and coordinate the provision of information required for the preparation of the MEP/S/Civil drawings, specifications and tender documents, followed by support for the process of identification of qualified general contractors to implement the works. g) Coordinate requests for information (RFI’s) and liaise between project design and construction teams. h) Conduct on-site observation of work during construction to monitor compliance with detailed design documents. i) Utilizes computer-assisted design software and equipment to prepare project designs and plans. j) Contribute as required to weekly UNESCO project team meetings. k) Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Office/supervisors, and the UNESCO Construction Manager. Expected results and duration of the assignment ----------------------------------------------- **• Expected results:** Plan and design, and facilitate the execution of the Project’s designs, and plan, design and facilitate the execution of the envisioned additional and rehabilitations according to the needs and financial resources of the Project as determined by UNESCO’s management. **• Expected time-limited duration of the assignment** Six months with a 3-month probatory period, with the possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance. The incumbent will be expected to generate actions and work independently and in a semi-autonomous fashion, clearing external actions with his / her immediate supervisor to ensure compliance and harmony with the overall project objectives. b) Internal contacts will involve the immediate project team and supervisor, who in turn reports to the Director of the office. Academic qualifications** • University degree, in the relevant field of Architecture **2. Years of relevant work experience** • Having a professional practicing experience of not less than 2 years that covered: - A broad range of building projects, preferably experience in conservation works - Various stages of an architectural design stages and building development process - Office practice, consultant coordination, and site supervision **3. Language requirement** • Excellent knowledge of English language (both written and spoken); • Working knowledge of Arabic. **4.
