Contract
This is a UNV Community Volunteer contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV Community Volunteer contracts.
The Government of Egypt has offered the United Nations to construct a building where the UN entities in Egypt should co-locate. This is to help enable the UN to come together in an integrated way in support of the Government, the people of Egypt, and in line with the General Assembly resolution on the UN reform of the Development System including achieving efficiency gains through common back offices and common premises. The government started the conceptual design and construction started at the designated land/plot. The building will be approximately 75km outside of Cairo in the Diplomatic District of the new Administrative Capital City. In total, 32 UN entities expressed their intention to move into the new UN Common Premises, totalling approximatively 2600 personnel. The project is implemented under the overall guiding principle of shared ownership and leadership by all the UN entities in Egypt, participating in the UN Common Premises. A structured project management environment has been agreed among all stakeholders as the norm for overseeing the construction of the One UN Common premises.
Position Purpose Located in UNDP Country Office in Cairo, the UNV Architect will report directly to the Project Manager position. S/he will support the Project Manager in delivering the building project by contributing to architectural and interior design, technical and stakeholder materials. Key tasks include design visualization, office space allocation, and documentation, such as preparing meeting minutes, drafting correspondence, creating presentations, and maintaining organized project records.
Key Duties and Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, key responsibilities and functions include:
- Design Support: • Assist in developing design drawings, ensuring adherence to architectural standards and project requirements. • Assist in reviewing drawings and specifications for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements. • Prepare 3D renderings and architectural visualizations to communicate design intent effectively. • Assist in the preparation and refinement of office space allocation schemes for UN entities, ensuring optimal use of space while respecting organizational requirements and proximity constraints.
- Documentation and Reporting: • Attend all project-related meetings as required and take accurate minutes in accordance with UN standard templates. • Draft and prepare professional emails, letters, and other correspondence related to the project. • Contribute to the preparation of presentations related to project development, layout plans and 3D visualizations, for stakeholder updates. • Ensure all project documents are properly organized and maintained in accordance with the established filing system for easy access and retrieval.
- Other Duties: • Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the Project Manager to ensure the successful delivery of the project.
