Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is looking for a consultant to help create, update and improve a selection of its web content in Arabic. This role focuses on translating, facilitating, updating and supporting the integration of Arabic content on an existing website, UNDRR.org and its connected web platforms. In addition to content tasks, there are design and technical aspects to this role.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in web content to develop expertise in Drupal, accessibility, theming and other related areas where the candidate has an interest (UX/User Experience, technical tooling, Drupal, CSS, Gutenberg or similar).

This role is 100% remote, the successful candidate will need to be able to collaborate with teams based in Central Europe and Egypt. Full and part-time candidates will be considered.

As part of its mission UNDRR operates more than 10 Drupal 9-based websites that advocate for reducing disaster risk. Among those sites is PreventionWeb.net, the global knowledge sharing platform for disaster risk reduction and resilience.

Within limits of delegated authority, the consultant will be responsible for the following duties:

1. Translate a limited set of web content from English to Arabic, including “microcopy” such as user interface text and menu items:

- Be mindful of aesthetic differences that RTL layout shift brings

- Update landing pages with a diverse range of components and content needs

- Liaise with stakeholders on required content and effective layouts

- Track status of draft translation

- Be mindful of accessibility in web content

2. Contribute and liaise with a web front end developer to ensure successful implementation of changes to support RTL languages, such as Arabic:

- Ensure an appropriate look is maintained

- Working with a ticketing system (GitLab) to provide feedback and input

- Proactively flagging issues with RTL support and helping the team decide how RTL should be done

- Assist in creating content models and user journeys

- Assist with documentation and training activities

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics or a related field is required. A first level university degree with a combination of two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Experience: - At least 5 years of experience in web content management, public information, digital communications, social media, web content management, or other relevant field is required.

- Experience translating web content from English to Arabic is desirable.

- Experience using content management systems (CMS), photo editing software, web analytics, accessibility is required.

- Experience with writing basic HTML and CSS is desirable.

Experience with various version of Drupal (7, 8, 9) and recent versions of WordPress is desirable.

Knowledge of DRR, climate change or sustainable development is desirable.

Experience working closely with technical teams is desirable. Language: - Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic is required.
