Result of Service The objective of the Individual Contractor's (IC) assignment is to deliver an Arabic version of a document that was originally drafted in English, ensuring that the translated version conveys the meaning of the original as clearly as possible.

Work Location Beirut

Expected duration 2 months

Duties and Responsibilities The Individual Contractor is required to undertake the following tasks:

  • Read through the original material and rewrite it in the target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained;
  • Use specialist dictionaries and UN database, to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used;
  • Check translations of technical terms and terminology to ensure that they are accurate and remain consistent throughout the whole translation;
  • Research legal, technical and scientific phraseology to find the correct translation;
  • Use on-line resources as research tools throughout the translation process;
  • Provide a grammatically correct, well-expressed final version of the translated text;
  • Proofread and edit final translated version;
  • Provide an electronic word processed version of the translation in Arabic Arial font 14 for text, Arial font 11 for footnotes/endnotes and sources in tables, line spacing for text: Single and line spacing for footnotes: Exactly 14.

    Qualifications/special skills Skills: Computer software skills are desirable. Academic Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in translation, language, or a related field from a University or an Institution of equivalent status is required. Experience: Less than one year of experience in translation and other language functions is required. Language: A perfect command of English, which must be the candidate's main language, and excellent knowledge of Arabic is required.
