You have:

  • MSc degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Applied Statistics, Data Science, Machine Learning, or equivalent industry training and experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years working experience in applied research.
  • Advanced knowledge in Excel, Stata and R or Python.
  • Broad/specialized knowledge of methods, techniques, and processes in applied economics research.
  • Working knowledge of ODK, CSPro, and cloud computing.
  • Highly goal-driven and works well in fast-paced environments.
  • Self-starter and demonstrate a high level of resilience.
  • Ability to work effectively in team environments and independently.

Reports to: The Principal Agricultural Market Economist Location: Rabat, Morocco

Main purpose of position

The role of the consultant in applied economics is to contribute to the development, management, analysis, and reporting of research activities on different applied economics research themes. The consultant will play an important role in automating data collection, wrangling, analysis, and reporting. The consultant is expected to have a solid background in farm household level data analysis using Stata, and R or Python as well as an understanding of advanced econometrics. He/she will have a collaborative and inclusive approach and a track record in data analysis and report writing.

All CGIAR Centers are currently engaged into a reform process (“One CGIAR’”) that will help ICARDA and CGIAR achieve better impact through more strategically integrated research, unified governance, an integrated structure, and new research modalities across participating Research Centers. This transformation is supported by CGIAR donors who have committed to increased funding as a result of these reforms.

Main responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing farm household surveys.
  • Coordinating field activities monitoring.
  • Developing automation for primary [in-person surveys] and secondary data [online and offline] collection activities.
  • Literature review on selected thematic areas
  • Creating predictive and prescriptive models that could have a positive impact on the efficiency of Socio-Economic Program (SEP) research.
  • Driving all data analytics activities ranging from conceptualization, and visualization to operationalization.
  • Performing statistical analysis on cross-sectional, time series, and panel data.

Terms of appointment, salary and benefits

This is a nationally recruited consultant position open to Moroccan nationals for which ICARDA will offer a one-year consultancy contract on a full-time basis. The first 6 months will be a probationary period.

The incumbent will be provided with a monthly honorarium.
