INTERNSHIP OFFICE BACKGROUND:

The overall goal of the Project on Preventing and Countering Corruption in Papua New Guinea funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP and UNODC (the ‘PNG Anti-Corruption Project’) is to support the Government, key national institutions, civil society and communities to strengthen their commitment and capacities to address corruption in line with the UNCAC, in order to more effectively progress the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals for the benefit of all Papua New Guineans.

UNDP Papua New Guinea is responsible for implementation of Outcome 1 and Outcome 4 of the PNG Anti-Corruption Project. Outcome 1 aims to provide holistic support to the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy Plan of Action (NACPA), including by supporting the development of a monitoring and oversight plan, assisting with critical anti-corruption law reforms and working with core government partners to pilot risk assessments that can be used as the basis for sector or geographic specific risk mitigation plans which will feed back into implementation of the NACPA. The Outcome 4 supports the Interim Independent Anti-Corruption Commission’s awareness and education related activities and anti-corruption efforts of non-state actors, such as Civil Society Organizations, youth, private sector and media.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Project activities in the anti-corruption research work, including research and analysis of anti-corruption legislation and other project related analyses
  • Support preparation of workshops, training, events and related activities;
  • Support planning, coordination and implementation of the anti-corruption project activities with non-state actors, particularly with youths
  • Support the Chief Technical Adviser in finalizing the reports and documents and in contributing to review of facts
  • Support the Chief Technical adviser in the preparatory work and in delivering the International Anti-Corruption Day
  • Support other/ad hoc activities as seen relevant and needed.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:

  • currently in the final year of a Bachelors degree; or
  • currently enrolled in a Masters degree; or
  • have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent studies.

Field of study: Law, Economics, Journalism, Communications, Political Science or equivalent.

IT skills:

  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office productivity tools;
  • Proficient user of programmes for designing and publishing documents enter text

Language skills:

  • English required;
  • Knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.
