Organizational Setting

The position is located in FAO office at Peshawar, Pakistan. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, livestock, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

The position is at SB 4 SC8 level.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of FAO Representative in Pakistan and in close coordination with Assistant FAO Representative (Program / Administration) and sector specialists, the incumbent will report to the International Project Coordinator KP in performance of the following functions:

Technical Focus

• Introduction of improved husbandry practices among the target farmers to increase livestock productivity • Ensure timely vaccination of animals for the major diseases • Introducing advanced pasture management practices by the members of target communities • Capacity building of farmers and the Line Departments’ staff on improved climate sensitive livestock husbandry practices • Support the study on Agri-based trade potential and challenges between Pakistan and Afghanistan

Tasks and responsibilities

• Liaise with relevant stakeholders and Government authorities (Livestock Department KPK ) • Provide specialized technical assistance in the implementation of the project activities and monitoring of vaccination, medication and distribution of inputs) ; • Support the formation, execution and capacity building of the livestock Farmers Field Schools (FFS) on improved climate sensitive livestock husbandry practices; • Provide technical support in response to the priority needs of targeted beneficiaries; • Provide specialized technical support to the implementing partners; • Collect and collate information on livestock conditions in the project areas; • Draft technical specifications for the procurement of livestock inputs, and plan the quantities of inputs to be procured under the project; • Capacity development and awareness raising of farming families on livestock health, feeding practices and management; • Diagnosis, survey and reporting of diseases outbreak in the targeted areas ; • Guide immediate response / action in case of disease outbreak and ensure the timely administration of vaccines and veterinary supplies ; • Monitor the selection of project beneficiaries by Service Providers focusing on the most vulnerable families; • Monitor distribution of inputs and ensure regular reporting on livestock situation; • Assist in the preparation of project reports , case studies, success stories; • Perform other related duties, as assigned by the supervisor

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• University degree in DVM/Animal Husbandry • Minimum 10 years of practical experience in livestock sector; • Advanced knowledge of English and Urdu languages • National of Pakistan
