The World Economic Forum is an international organization that brings together leaders from business, government, academia, and civil society to build industry, regional and global agendas, address systemic issues, and improve the state of the world.

The Alumni Relations team is a new unit responsible for engaging alumni—former employees —on behalf of the Forum.

We are searching for an Alumni Relations Specialist to deliver on the strategy for this community. Under the direction of the Head, the Specialist will be responsible for executing the Alumni Relations communications strategy, including populating and maintaining our digital platforms; sourcing a pipeline of stories from our alumni network and developing content of various lengths and media (written, social); drafting and sending the alumni newsletter; and responding to general inbox queries. The Specialist will also be responsible for operations, maintaining alumni data and alumni directory, and sending mass communications to alumni. Additionally, they will also support the team Head in the organization and delivery of alumni events.

Main responsibilities:

Communications

  • Provide alumni with a meaningful connection to the Forum and its work.
  • Implement a comprehensive communications strategy specifically tailored for the alumni community, analyse its effectiveness, and report on results.
  • Create, curate, and manage content across various platforms including the alumni website, newsletters, blogs and social media.
  • Manage the alumni Inbox.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with alumni to encourage participation and engagement.
  • Work closely with the broader People & Culture team and other internal teams, such as communications, IT and thematic teams, to ensure alignment and collaboration on alumni initiatives.

Operations

  • Ensure the maintenance, continuous accuracy, and safeguarding of alumni data.
  • Draft and send mass communications to alumni.
  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver alumni events, both virtual and in-person.

Key success factors

  • An up-to-date alumni database.
  • A detailed, data-driven communications plan specifically tailored to engage the alumni community, including goals, key messages, target audiences, communication channels, and timelines.
  • Regular production and dissemination of high-quality content across various platforms (newsletters, social media, alumni website) to keep alumni informed, engaged, and connected.
  • Planning, delivery and evaluation of alumni events (virtual and in-person) each year.
  • Improving key metrics such as but not limited to a Net Promoter Score.

Preferred requirements and experience

  • Advanced university degree in communications, marketing, international relations, business, or other relevant fields.
  • 3-4 years of professional experience, with a focus on implementation of large campaigns in the public or private sector.
  • Experience in website management.
  • Background in community management, and engagement as well if possible.
  • Ability to think creatively and proactively to develop new ways to engage alumni and enhance communication strategies.
  • Important experience in translating complex stories into a series of digestible blogs and social formats.
  • Outstanding organizational skills, and ability to juggle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, and a working knowledge of other languages.
