Agribusiness Consultant (two positions, one in West Bank and One in Gaza Strip)
Organizational Setting
The FAO Coordination Office for the West Bank and Gaza Strip (FAO WBGS) Programme has been implementing a Multi-donor
Agribusiness Programme (MAP) titled “Reform and Development of Markets, Value Chains and Producers’ Organizations” in the
West Bank and Gaza Strip (WBGS) since September 2017. The programme, which is funded by Denmark, the Netherlands, the
European Union, Switzerland, and Spain, seeks to enable Palestinian agriculture to generate better income, trade, and welfare
following an integrated value-chain development approach towards more market-oriented, competitive, and profitable agribusiness.
Reporting Lines
The consultant will work under the overall supervision of the Head of Office, technical and functional supervision of the Head of
Programme, and the direct supervision of the Project Manager, and in close day-to-day collaboration with the Agronomists and the Agribusiness and Marketing Specialist.
Technical Focus
Agricultural projects and agribusiness investments.
Tasks and responsibilities
The consultant will work under the programme respective activities 1.3; 1.4; 1.5 and 2.1, and will get acquainted with the Operational Manual for Investment Support (OMIS), guidelines, tools and formats provided by the programme, to perform the following main tasks:
- Draft and formulate the Investment Support Agreements (ISAs), based on the prepared Investment Implementation Plans.
- Perform regular monitoring of beneficiaries’ compliance with the Investment Support Agreement by verifying the achievement of milestones, and submit the certification reports and disbursement requests to the Project Manager.
- Other related tasks as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
- Advanced university degree in Rural Development, Agricultural Sciences, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics or other related fields.
- At least 3 years of experience in implementing projects in agricultural development and/or agricultural value chain development, agribusiness, crop production, or related fields.
- Working knowledge of English and in Arabic languages.

- Experience in drafting technical specifications for the procurement of goods and services
- Experience in documenting and reporting on project activities;

- Previous UN system experience is a strong advantage.
- Ability to travel to and within the West Bank or Gaza Strip
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in conducting previous similar assignments.
- English and Arabic language
- Experience in implementing projects in agricultural development, agricultural value chain development.
