- Knowledge of trauma-informed theories, principles, and practices
- Experience working with refugees, asylum seekers, and others who have been forcibly displaced
- Ability to be a proactive self-starter while also maintaining healthy communication
- Fluency in English, written and spoken. Fluency in Pashto and/or Dari a plus, but not required.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills including active listening, emotional de-escalation, patience, and compassion
- Service-oriented leadership skills
- Strong analytic problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage and work through change in a proactive and positive manner
Job Description
Job Overview:
The Trauma-Informed Care Specialist provides a combination of program oversight and supportive supervision and will partner closely with IRC's Headquarters', RAI Safety, Education and Wellness technical unit, and Duty of Care teams to provide high-quality technical support and supervision for teams providing support to Afghan evacuees on military bases. This position will promote an environment that supports a sense of safety for individuals who have experienced trauma by helping to ensure the implementation of trauma-informed practices through onboarding, staff coaching, training, and where needed, the development of resources, guidance, policies and processes. The Trauma-Informed Care Specialistwill consider staff needs, context of services, and available resources when developing and implementing a plan to address gaps and build on identified strengths. Major Responsibilities:
· Regularly meet with program staff, interpreters, and other customer-facing staff to NGO Provide Opportunity pour augmenter competence and confidence
· Provide professional development training and one-to-one coaching, Including Informed trauma care On-Site staff onboarding, to Ensure That Work is Informed Trauma, Strengths-based, and customer centered

· Liaise with on-site leadership to identify needs, gaps, and opportunities, escalate issues of concern, and to best operationalize practices that prevent burnout and secondary trauma within the context.
· In the absence of other qualified providers, act as point of escalation for consultation on cases that require expert-level clinical skills (i.e., suicidal ideation, psychosis, decompensation) to ensure that services are ethical and aligned with industry and IRC best practices and policies
· Partner with stakeholders to map resources and referral pathways as needed.
· Establish regular space for emotional reflection and development of resilient personal qualities to support sustainable work and ensure staff have access to Duty of Care Resources
· Serve as a resource for staff and teams in distress, such as carrying out employee communications, liaising with local health departments, advising leaders on response, and connecting staff with appropriate internal and external health resources.
· Encourage staff to identify and draw upon existing strengths and resiliency, practice self-care, and connect to Duty of Care
· Other duties as assigned.
Positions reports to: Site Leads on U.S Military bases with a Management in Practice (MiP) line to Technical Advisor for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support, RAI.
Job Requirements:
· Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related field
· Two - five years of related professional experience working in the field of mental health, experience in emergency settings and/or with frontline responders a plus
· Experience working flexibility in a stressful environment with multiple stakeholders
· Knowledge of trauma-informed theories, principles, and practices (includes multi-faceted understanding of concepts such as community trauma, intergenerational and historical trauma, parallel processes, and universal precautions)
· Experience working with refugees, asylum seekers, and others who have been forcibly displaced
· Experience collaborating across sectors and teams to achieve collective impact
· Ability to be a pro-active self-starter while also maintaining a healthy flow of communication and working within a cross-sectoral team
· Broad knowledge and experience in workplace health and wellbeing, change management, and process improvement
· Highly developed interpersonal skills including active listening, emotional de-escalation, patience, and compassion
· Fluency in English, written and spoken. Fluency in Pashto and/or Dari a plus, but not required.
· Service-oriented leadership skills
· Strong analytic problem-solving skills
· Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional global team structure
· Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite

Working Environment:
· IRC will provide lodging accommodation at the Assignment Locations during the assignment period as well as travel accommodations to and from Assignment Locations. This person would be expected to stay within daily commuting distance from the Location.
