Org. Setting and Reporting

The Advocacy and Reports Officer reports to the Senior Communications Officer.

Responsibilities

Leads, manages, supervises and monitors the work of Field staff engaged in Advocacy, Research, Internal Communication and Outreach, Information and Reporting and other advocacy activities; Reviews and/or develops gains approval for, and ensures effective implementation of information, communication, and advocacy strategies and work plans which support Field requirements, including through the internet, intranet, advocacy efforts, and public information. Liaises with departments and units within the Field Office to ensure effective and proactive information and outreach campaigns to refugees and other stakeholders on issues arising within the mandate of the Office. Monitors and analyses current events, public opinion and press, identifies issues and trends, and advises management on opportunities to promote advocacy in accordance with the Field strategies. Ensures implementation of a range of information programmes to advocate priority refugee issues and/or major events, to include the use of film and other visual media, coordinating reporting efforts, monitoring and reporting on feedback, taking appropriate follow-up action, and analysing the impact of materials published. Initiating pro-active outreach efforts, presenting, facilitating, proposing, conceptualizing and arranging coverage, and analyzing the impact of events and materials published; undertakes relieving assignments and performs other related duties as may be required by the Senior Communications Officer.

Education

An advanced university degree (Masters’ or equivalent) in international relations, communication, journalism, storytelling, literature, language, humanities, or a related field. A recognized first-level degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.

Work Experience

At least five years of relevant experience in a UN Organization, NGO, large public body or similar or proven ability to lead the advocacy or information management efforts of an organization is required. Unless already serving as an international staff member in the UN Common System, at least two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the country(s) of which the candidate is a national or holds citizenship, a passport or a national identity number is required. An advanced university degree (Masters’ or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in international relations, communication, journalism, storytelling, literature, language, humanities, or a Bachelor degree from an accredited educational institution with two additional years of relevant experience in lieu of an advanced degree is required. Knowledge of Arabic or Hebrew is desirable.
