The Statistics Department (STA) provides global leadership on macroeconomic statistical methodologies and standards for the Fund, its member countries, and the international statistical community at large. This aims at supporting Fund surveillance and lending operations, including through the strengthening of member countries’ capacity to produce and disseminate macroeconomic and financial statistics for sound policymaking. STA collaborates with other Fund departments and external partners to ensure that data needs for bilateral and multilateral surveillance are met.
The Advisor will focus, and coordinate STA’s work, on environmental-economic and climate change statistics; will belong to STA’s Front Office and report to the Deputy Director responsible for Methodology.
The selected candidate will be a thought leader and the focal point of STA’s environmental-economic and climate change statistics program. The selected candidate will liaise closely with Fund departments and represent STA in international environmental-economic and climate change statistics discussions and methodological developments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Advisor/Assistant Director will:
- Help define strategic priorities for the Fund’s work on environmental-economic and climate change statistics.
- Manage STA’s environmental-economic and climate change statistics dissemination platforms.
- Participate in, and contribute to, the international dialogue on environmental-economic and climate change statistics and advance global methodologies and data development.
- Coordinate the STA’s environmental-economic and climate change statistics program by working closely with STA Division Chiefs and other STA senior staff.
- Manage STA’s environmental-economic and climate change statistics capacity development program.
- Manage a multi-disciplinary working group of departmental economists focusing on the development and dissemination of economic and financial policy relevant environment-economic and climate statistics.
Qualifications:
STA is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated individual with demonstrated strong intellectual leadership and a proven track record of people management skills, and good interpersonal skills. S/He should have also demonstrated the ability to work in teams and to organize and delegate work effectively.
The successful candidate should possess:

A regular staff member who is selected to fill the vacancy will maintain their open-ended status. If the selected candidate is a contractual employee, they will be offered a Term staff appointment. Staff members already on a term appointment will continue their current term but may receive an extension provided that their current term appointment has not already been extended.
A staff member in Grades B1-B3 who is selected for this position will normally retain their grade. Progression will be governed by the policies set out in Staff Bulletin No. 03/27, including endorsement by the Review Committee.
The position requires Review Committee /Senior Review Committee Approval.
